I bought a #12466 hood for my Summicron 28 some time back at a discount. Never used it as I found it too rich at that time. I was recently offered a four figure price for it in mint condition.

Did not hesitate to sell it!

Interesting how the hood appreciated in price more than the lens.

Can anyone point me towards a nice ventilated round hood for a recent production 35 summilux? there are so many different ones that sends my head spinning

What is the actual thread size of that lens? Is there a way to check?

The recent 35 Summilux comes with a great hood. Why would you want to replace that?

If you have to with a thread mount one, it's 46mm. Haoge makes a nice Leica-like one. There are also many cheap ones on eBay.

Do note that with thread mount hoods, you may have vignetting if used together with a filter.

There are mainly 2 reasons why I want to replace the rectangular hood:

1) The lens cover for the rectangular hood is annoying and always comes off in the bag so I want a traditional round one with a pinch cap

2) I want to use other size filter on it so I dont need another set of filters.

As an added bonus, I like the look of the round more than the rectangular hoods :p

Have a look at this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/SIOTI-Cleaning-Compatible-Samsung-Standard/dp/B07KGPMS4X/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Wide+Angle+Metal+Tilted+Vented+46mm&qid=1606744700&s=electronics&sr=1-1

I use a round metal lens hood for my 35mm Summilux like this one. I dropped the lens onto gravel and the lens hood took the force and only bent slightly. The lens was fine. Best €9 I ever spent!

Cons. With a filter there is very slight vignetting.

Thats a great suggestion! But unfortunately they are out of stock.

And would the hood threads be exposed if I use the filter threads? Does anyone know the diameter of the hood threads?

Thanks

You need not worry about my ability to purchase stuff.  Unlike other places, we have open markets here in the US

Looks like 46mm variants of these hoods are now available on eBay (shipping from China) for a quarter of the price in either black or silver ($52)

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313&_nkw=Leica+E46+Metal+lotus+hood+for+Leica&_sacat=0

I ordered one to replace the awful hood of the 35mm Summilux pre-FLE. There is no way I would pay $200 for a third party hood.

Erik

P.S. sorry for double posting - same post is on the Q forum as well.

Oh, what do you want to say? We all know: Cheap is beautiful.

I wouldn't call $52 cheap for a Chinese hood. I bought it because it looked better than the really cheap variants and more importantly it appears to accept filters as well.

Don't buy it then..  Solved.

Not my term…was quoting and laughing at another post, over two years ago.  But thanks for the reminder.  I suspect you don’t know Thorsten’s history here, which led to the joke. He’s known for selling items like $30k camera bags (using skins from skins of endangered species), etc.  And yes, I make my own purchase decisions, without help from you or others, thanks.
