Hey,

I'm searching a metal front cap in silver/chrome for the Summicron 50mm 5th version. Cause of the integrated hood the standard 39mm don't match.

Maybe someone has a idea.

Thank you very much!

Daniel

I have no 50/2 v5 with me here so i don't know if the 14398 lens cap for 50/2 apo can fit on it. If it does, the silver version of the 14398 cap could be an idea.

A42 slip-on lens caps like 14031 & 14321 below won't fit 50/2 v5 Summicrons due to their built-in hood i'm afraid. No problem on 50/2 v4 though.

Daniel,

Check with Ken Hansen khpny19@aol.com he is New York city. He is lieca dealer. He does not have a web site. He does everything by email and has decent  inventory of  leica gear. He usually replies to your email with in a day or two at most.

Good luck in your search.

Define 4th version :D;)

This one, for example... B)  :D  (its REAL cap at right...)

I take for good the sequence :

1st : collapsible Mount, 7 elements

2nd : fixed Mount 7 elements (plus the DR...)

3rd : 6 elements (typical number 11817)

4th : 6 elements, new lens design (typical number 11819)

5th : same design, built in hood.

Just to add to the discussion... Is version 5 version 4 or version 6? ;)

The 14398 metal slip-on cap for 50/2 apo fits nicely on my current 50/2 v5 (pic). It has no play on the barrel but it is not tight enough to prevent it from slipping as is. Can be used securely over the regular 14038 plastic cap though. For aesthetes and plastic haters only ;).

the #3 is the DR... a variant, not a version...

Sure but one could think that the current "v5" is a variant of v4 as well. Here's what Camera Repair dot Com used to write in 2010. Just a question of wording i guess B).

« Version 3: As Version 2 but DR physical embodiment. Simultaneous in time and overlapping serial numbers as well. Without the "EYES", the DR functions identically to version 2 focusing down to 1 meter. With the "EYES", which render a generalized parallax offset adjustment, the lens will crank out to a focal distance of only 48cm. Mechanically extremely complex, this lens represents what is widely regarded as an amazing high point in Leica's manufacturing capabilities. 1957-1968. »

Uhm... making a good hair splitting on terminology... I can argue that a "variant" is commercially available together with the "standard" (and this is the DR case), while a "version" supersedes the previous one on pricelists (which is the "v4-v5" case) B)

I too would like to find a "proper" silver metal cap for my LTM 1999 version of Type 5 of the 50mm Summicron. A black plastic cap looks silly on a chrome LTM camera/chrome lens and when I have a filter on as I do 99% of the time, pale yellow for B&W or Skylight 1A for colour reversal, the plastic cap is very easily knocked off. I have spotted it every time so far but sooner or later, probably sooner, it will drop off and I won't notice it.
