indergaard Posted July 5, 2018 Share #41 Posted July 5, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I absolutely love silent leaf shutters (Fuji’s X100 line) and the electronic shutters in the Fuji or Sony cameras that I’ve owned. I use the A7rIII almost exclusively in electronic shutter mode, and only switch to mechanical shutter if I have to. I’ve considered purchasing a Sony A9 just to be able to shoot absolutely everything with a fully electronic shutter! The M cameras was (and some places still is) the reference for what noise level a camera is allowed to make to be used. I think it should be of a very high priority for Leica to implement a silent shutter mode in their M. Or launch an M with an EVF and a fully electronic shutter like on the Sony A9 as an option. Reini Posted July 5, 2018 Share #44 Posted July 5, 2018 A Leica does not have a camera for secret photography. The designers think well: >If already noticed, then right.<

Well, when I compare the "noise level" of my M3 (which is the less noisiest I have) and the M10, the difference is very subtle. Compared to this the difference between the M10 and the M9 is enormous (leave alone the M8 even in the so-called discrete mode).
Reini Posted July 5, 2018 Share #46 Posted July 5, 2018 Why does a digital camera really need to make noise at all? With a smartphone (or many other Digicams) one knows, it is only a Gimmik that one can switch off.
