The thing that i love about a 50 is that it gives us the ability to play with natural tele compression and a forced  perspective without any wild exaggerated distortions.  That's a verbose way of saying its a nice happy place between wide and tele.  Giving us the benefits of both.  Whenever I'm out with just a 35 i feel limited by the wideness of the lens. When I go out with anything over 50 I feel I lose any chance of getting backgrounds. In a sense the 50 forces one to use the composition and content of the frame to imply "wideness" or "teleness".

 

 

For my first post, I want to thank a fellow "John" for concisely stating the very reason that I shoot a 50.  Well said!

I was pleasantly surprised by the gentle glow of the J3. It does appear sometimes when paired with my M9, but I've never found it so appealing as it does with the FP4+, which is indeed a marvellous and versatile film.
