Flag Hat, 50mm Elmar-M f/2.8 (1990s version) at f/5.6, M10

Funny how this unassuming little lens just "clicks" for me, more than any other 50 I've used in decades. Maybe a throwback to my first Leica experience in college (1973) - a $100 well-worn IIIc with a f/3.5 Elmar. But with an added dose of Mandler cyan, 0.7m focusing, and "modern Solms" clarity. 70 years of Leitz/Leica 50s collected into one tiny package.

IIRC you had a 50mm Summilux pre-ASPH v.2 not long ago. Did you replace it with this one, or do you have both?

You're correct - and I replaced it with the Elmar-M.

The closer focusing was the key element (see all my Elmar-M posts so far), especially once I found out that the Elmar-M still retained most of the Mandler/Canada color (minus-magenta) of the Summilux.

Close enough, but no red curtains. And mine had the knurled-top screw-on housing around the shutter button, to cosmetically match the shutter dial.

Me and IIIc, 1974, Leica IIIc and 50mm Elmar f/3.5, at f/3.5 (heavy crop), HP4 or Tri-X. Soon after this picture was taken, I got swept away by the SLR tsunami for 27 years. ;)

I like this image!

I know this is a lens thread, but I’d like to know what can I learn from how you got this image, thought process, filters, PP etc. can you say something more ?
