A short video clip I made on SL with Summarit 35/2.4 in L-log and graded in FCP X as Arri Log C footage. Wanted to finally see what can be done with those L-log files.

Not bad results, looks really promising.

Anyone here has any experience with making films on SL? How do you capture the footage, how do you colour grade later? What LUT do you use?

I've looked at buying some extra LUT loaders and use some custom LUTs but decided that it's not really needed. I can work with what's in the Apple Final Cut Pro X quite effectively it seems.

How about you?

HI,

I am using the Sl2S as a professional setup for filmmaking and with the right settings and workflow, it is really hard to beat. The advantage (IMHO) of the SL2S is the incedibly good colour rendering of subtle changes (skin-tones, shadows, greys, blacks, whites and so on). My setup is the SLS2 in a cage (8sinn), an external recorder (the nija V+) and most of the time the 24-70 Vario (which is a great glass and quite workable). Sometimes I add M-Lenses via the adaptor, but I try to keep everything as consistent as possible. My settings are cine Mode, 180 Degree Shutter, MOV C4K 24p/s 4:2:2 10Bit 400 Mps recorded to the Ninja and I use a LUT on the Ninja to preview. The second thing is the setup of your colour-management in Davinci (there are tutorials for that on youtube) in order to avoid the flat export. Grading is great with the data you get from the SL2S, there is really no need to go for RAW. If you follow this route, you will be a happy filmmaker with the Leica smile (the one you have, when you know, that you have complete creative control and your camera loves you).
