Lovely picture - thanks - but I am very concerned by the aura/halo which follows the outline of the two camels - on the on the left and on on the right.  I was wondering if that was movement - but both animals see to have the same halo and by the same amount.

What do you think?

Agree that disturbs. May be due to backlight and this man was very close just 2 ft away, from the lens and set aperture is f 2 also Original Image is 3 stops under and while correcting it, it looks more prominent.

Mehtasunil

I'm travelling to India (Mumbai) next week.  I am not sure if my Q will be sufficient for the trip.  I also have an M9 + 21mm +50+  75 for portraits in the street.  What is your opinion regarding the suitability of one camera-one lens (Leica Q) ?

In Rajasthan in 2014,  I used 50 + 75mm.

I used only ‘Q” for this travel to Pushkar fair in Rajashtan and return with some good images…. for the day to day “Q” is just perfect, and if you don’t mind in some cropping of final image take only Q.

But if you take more of street portraits (tight Shots) take M9 + 50 or 75. First day keep M9 in Hotel room and if you think “Q” is too wide for your style take out M9….

So flame me ...

not in response to any particular image, but I find the Q images on the German Q forum far more interesting that those here on the Anglophone space.

Are there more interesting things to see in Germany - or do they merely see things in more interesting ways?

On a related topic do Leica Q images have to go here? I was assuming they can go into the subject threads in the photography section.

Good morning. I'm new to the forum and new to Leica. I recently got my hands on the Leica Q. I'm a long time Sony user of the RX1 and the RX1R. So far I love the Q and it's handling. I'm still working on it's output potential as I learn Lightroom. I use to only use jpeg's as the RX1R had great jpeg output. Anyways, any input is appreciated. Also, is there any special Lightroom presets you guys are using? I'm trying to make the PP fast and painless...

Jason,

My situation is similar to yours. To my great disappointment, the print output from jpeg is very unsatisfactory and quite unsatisfactory.  Frankly, it pales in comparison to my Leica T typ 113. Images are flat and muddled.

So, it is learning to process through LR, or give up on the Q (unless or until Leica writes a much better program for the Q for the jpegs).

Some on this forum will look askance at anyone buying this camera without being committed to RAW processing, but frankly, as a hobbyist, I'm more concerned with the immediate gratification of super sharp and wonderfully colored images that require a minimum amount of time in post processing.  The Q is terrific to use so I'd love it to be a keeper, but I'm on the fence right now because of the jpeg issue. So, I too, would welcome anyone's input on LR presets for quick post processing.

Thanks,

Rob

A few shots from my first outing with the Lieca Q, around King's Cross St Pancras in London. Very impressed with the dynamic range of the sensor, the draw of the lens and the sharpness of the output. I shot all with the lens aperture at f8 and auto iso against a fixed 1/125 shutter speed.

Jason,

first a warm welcome to the forum!

Your first results are nice and you will soon find out how to churn out the best from your camera. Here we meet each other, because the "Q" is also new in my hands.

Let me give you one advice: use the RAW files!

JPG's algorithm is always based on too much compression, which is dependant on the format. Each company has its own secrets to let them glow on the display of the camera or tablet. But the truth can be seen than on your monitor afterwards trying to enhance constrast or what so ever.

Processing RAW files with Lightroom is very easy and quick with the Q files. The lens is so superb that you do not need much to do. The only thing I do is setting the clarity slider to 20 %, sharpness is default setting by LR 25, radius 1.0, details 25. This is good enough. Since the default exposure with this camera is set to keep the highlights, you may feel to boost the shadows a bit. This is what I do. There is enough space that these adaptions cause no noise.

High ISO noise (from 4000 Iso on I reduce with Topaz Denoise software. Thi has more option than LR. But also LR 6 now works good enough for the first operations)

I hope you will have fun, exploring the new Leica Q and its versatility.

morning light on the hospital architecture of our city. A small park with a pond can have lovely light and I often go there when I carry my camera just to my office.
