Indeed unless the new Visoflex brings something new. No significant lag, similar viewing quality as Q2 and crop mode in live view in a yet compact package. This together with the M10 being still offered at a reduced price and with new Visoflex compatibility. Just a guess though.

No I don’t think so. Wesentliche means: only what really need. What do you really need? With more practice you reallly don’t need so much. Every gear with “ more” always obliges the less trained IMHO.

I have been practicing long enough, thank you very much. 

As much as "essential" can be pleasure and fun I do appreciate even more all the bells and whistles that modern technology can provide.  I am into digital M full frame system primarily for the small quality lenses, optical RF comes distant second.

Alan Schaller is a guy we could all learn a lot from.  He is doing several things right and as a result has risen to a high level in the world of Leica M photography.  I love watching his videos and hearing him teach.  He has mastered that most daunting and terrifying of skills:  Photographing with only one lens. 😳

Truly shocking for Leica's bottom line, one lens only 🤯, plus he is using now discontinued Summilux M 24mm as principal lens.  If the trend continues new cameras and lenses will have to be priced sky high, beyond everyone's reach but few very affluent collectors.

I always photograph with only one lens at a time, but, like Alan, I change the lens according to circumstances .

In 2017, from https://www.leica-camera.blog/2017/09/11/many-shades-life/:

My go to lenses are the 24mm Summilux and the 50mm Summilux Asph. A lot of work has been done with these lenses. I also use the 35 Summilux Asph FLE, 60mm R Macro lens and the 90mm APO Summicron.

Not long ago, the LUF conclusion was that it does not make sense to use Summilux 24mm/1.4 for street photography :).

Many years ago I did my foray into street photography with Pentax MX and SMC Pentax 24mm f2.8* (B&W film obviously),  I still have fond memories of those early days.  Thanks for reminder.  Must look for negatives and maybe scan few old keepers, something to do round Christmas, plenty of time and not enough daylight outside. 

Several decades later with Leica MP and later M9 my nearest lens was Zeiss ZM 25mm, again good for street, sadly lens was dropped and damaged beyond economic repair, replaced with SEM 21mm.  For some reason my current M wide line up is 21 & 28mm.

I like the first pic. No points ever for how one gets the shot… second pic….viewers care as little about that as the gear used.  Not sure why you keep the FLE given your resolve.

😀 A little too close to the bone for me. My FLE sits mainly unused, both on my M4-P and M10, as I almost always reach for my Summaron 3.5 LTM.

Besides FLE, I have Summaron f2.8 and Summicron ASPH v.1.  Each has its appeal.  But for the last year, most of my gear has been dramatically underutilized. 🙁

I have 5 M lenses; the 3 above, one 28 and one 50. Two of the 35’s were picked up just before Covid to experiment. Before that I never owned  more than 3 M lenses at a time, since the 80’s (except for short experiments with 75/90). 
 

My photo gear has been idle due to the pandemic and family matters. Once I get back to making pics, one or two of the 35’s will get sold. 

I collect vintage silver prints and first edition photo books.

Talking about collectors, I know somebodies with so many lenses that they don't count anymore since some years 🙈

How about more than a hundred or even more ?

They bought new when launched, never use them, some boxes are not even opened, 😁.

No idea whom you're referring to . Collectors or keepers can help newbies choosing their 2 or 3 non unnecessary lenses at least .

I don't know if collectors (who don't use the lenses, as I wrote) can help another for choices of 2-3 lenses.

 

Side note,

Some years ago, I knew nothing about LTM Leica, I asked for informations the one person I knew as long time user of those LTM.

He just said that he didn't know which one to recommend to begin with, adding that he had (by then) 72 Leica of different types to choose from.

I'm not a collector, but I can tell someone (if asking) many things, ups and downs about each lens I own (and use). To know well and possibly master your own gear, I think, is the first step to good imagery.
