vikasmg Posted January 31, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 31, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) There is a small panel with a graphic of (perhaps) and SD card on it between the battery chamber and the screw mount at the bottom of the M10 just behind the baseplate. The illustration in the manual shows the panel but does not name it. Does anyone know what it is? TIA - Vikas Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Hi vikasmg, Take a look here What is that under the M10 Base Plate? {merged}. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
digitalfx Posted January 31, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 31, 2017 It shows which way to insert the SD card. It may be the wifi under it, but not sure.
Mr.Q Posted January 31, 2017 Share #3 Posted January 31, 2017 It shows which way to insert the SD card. It may be the wifi under it, but not sure. I went to the M10 release party in Tokyo and Mr. Stefan Daniel stated that the Wifi antenna was located under the left side grip area. (where the USB port was on the M9)
vikasmg Posted January 31, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted January 31, 2017 So still a mystery. If the Leica didn't cost so much I'd be tempted to pry it open to check (if I actually had an M10 of course!). - Vikas
edwardkaraa Posted January 31, 2017 Share #5 Posted January 31, 2017 I'm guessing it's the diagnostics connection underneath. It's the same position as the M240.

wattsy Posted January 31, 2017 Share #9 Posted January 31, 2017 It contains a small cube of depleted uranium to give the camera the heft that Leica users expect. Leica were worried that, without it, there'd be complaints that the camera was too "toylike".
edw Posted January 31, 2017 Share #10 Posted January 31, 2017 That's the connector for the handgrip. The demo unit I shot had the cover removed and the connector exposed. It is also probably, as edwardkaraa suggested, for diagnostics, etc. The wifi antenna, according to the manual, is on the left side of the display, between the display buttons and the ambient light sensor. Sandwiching the wifi antenna between the body and the baseplate would render the antenna quite ineffective.

TIA - Vikas Couldn't work it out from your image until I looked at a unboxing video, then it is clearly just a guide showing how to insert the SD card properly as others have said. Don't know what is underneath it though. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Sounds like the most rational explanation though as yet there is no handgrip announced with any additional functions. Also based on my examining a display model at the local dealer there seems to be no way of removing what otherwise appears to be a cover plate. Time will tell I suppose... vikasmg Posted February 1, 2017 Author Share #13 Posted February 1, 2017 It contains a cyanide capsule to be ingested if your wife ever discovers how much you paid for your cameras. You may be right. There's no obvious way to open it but if you're reaching for you probably don't mind breaking the panel open :-)
pico Posted February 4, 2019 Share #14 Posted February 4, 2019 (edited) There it is - the extra port on the bottom of the M10. Is it for a multi-functional hand-grip? I hope! I found it thanks to Alex Hude's article. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I believe that port is used by Leica support for diagnostics. But who knows, they may bring out a multi-functional hand grip out similar to the M240.

pico Posted February 4, 2019 Share #18 Posted February 4, 2019 I understand that most of us are reluctant to poke around our expensive cameras but we only live once. So the movies tell us. Picos tip of the day is an inexpensive, amazingly durable composite pencil-like instrument made of unobtanium. Google menda 35622. Pry with it, use to press new coverings over old bodies, you will not break it and with reasonable pressure you will not harm your camera. They are so inexpensive buy a half-dozen to last a lifetime. 1
