jlm Posted June 25, 2007 Share #161 Posted June 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) it is extremely tough to do, but my advice from the experience of several forums over a few years is to simply not respond to comments like imants'. those comments only gain momentum from discussion. He has every right to make them, but discussing them grows legs. If Guy clams up, I will be very dissapointed. Guy: are you eventually going to post pictures of the Leica factory? Advertisement Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Hi jlm, Take a look here Germany /Leica academy. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
freusen Posted June 25, 2007 Share #162 Posted June 25, 2007 Looks like a P&S album of holiday snaps.......... nothing outstanding photographically, run of the mill stuff, can't see how a M8 gave a photographic edge at all. Guy started this thread reporting about his visit of the Leica production facility in Solms and continued with posting images from that trip to Germany. What’s wrong with that? Nothing, but you have to realise that everybody has different expectations of such a forum, if you like it or not. The problem with public forums is that the moderator can’t apply censorship, if they do the forum is useless and will die out soon. If someone offends you or writes something you don’t like, it’s better NOT to reply or you will start an endless and useless dispute. If you read the post of Imants Krumins which started the quarrel carefully you will agree with me that there isn’t much wrong with it, he has his opinion about the pictures, that’s all. It looks that there’s more behind the scène than is showed to us. (rivalry between photographers?) On the other side if you take a look at the website of Imants Krumins, his pictures are nothing outstanding photographically (his own words) and it’s rather arrogant to call yourself an artist. Guy, I can’t believe that it are the words that hurts you, it must be the person that hurts you. Don’t forget: you need two people to argue, but only one to conclude the dispute! Please keep posting Guy. Frank Reusen

Frank Reusen There is a statement I would dispute - and it should be in another thread- but speaking for myself, I may not be the world's best photographer, but I do know, when I am taking photographs I do get into a certain state of mind that allows me to "see" more than usual. I would call that an artistic act of creation -in the full knowledge that there are outstanding artists and mediocre ones, I would consider myself as falling within the definition of artist. larry Posted June 25, 2007 Share #166 Posted June 25, 2007 Talk about ships passing in the night. Guy intended this thread to be a journal/travelogue of his Leica Academy trip. Then Imants decided to post with throwaway remarks that masqueraded as art criticism and essentially hijacked the thread. "Art" was never the point. Imants should stick to photography, which I think he does very well, and practice his written communication skills in private for awhile. I think Imants has a lot to offer, but he doesn't seem to have the patience to articulate his ideas in writing. Constructive criticism from him could benefit all seeking to improve the aesthetics of their photography. I've been inspired by some of his work. I'd encourage Guy to continue posting his account and photos of the trip, I've found them to be interesting and enjoyable. Remember, this is Guy's vision of his trip. If you think your photos would be better, knock yourself out and take this trip next year. Larry

Please keep posting Guy. Frank Reusen Frank just to tap off of this and what most folks don't understand is this guy and mani also at times do this at every oppurtunity that they can , it is called harassment and i have complained about it numerous times , they have nothing but bad intentions always and that is my point. They are holiday photo's becuase i am on holiday but it is a trip that is interesting because it involves leica and also leica the academy and through this trip we have brought up what we saw at the factory , made a few announcements of a new product and also a oppurtunity for someone to join leica repair in NJ, there is a job i posted on another thread. these images are for my wife and kids to see where I went, it is not a critic section and the M8 forum is not the place for that it is all about the M8 which this thread is a major part of and it is about the lenses and the leica experience that some will hopefully join on a academy trip. that's all, i don't ever critique anyones work and never will unless i am specifically asked to do so . i ask for the same respect and don't want mine critiqued either. even the nice comments i just say thanks it is not me as a photographer that i care about , but it is about the experience i can share and help others . My critques come from clients and after this many years in this , that is all that matters. i honestly don't need anyone telling me otherwise and i relayed this message extremely clearly to him and to the mods and he still continues to harass people that really don't want to hear him speak of what they do. That is the point and the mods know this , not a big secret here but he continues to express his opinion that is not wanted and he knows that. That to me is trolling and harassment, i have specifically e-mailed or PM'd him politely in the past to please stay away from my threads and his opinions. i never say a word about his work until my comment today and frankly never say anything about anyones work that is ever bad. i am not here to judge and all i ask is the same respect. i am not here to be superior to anyone and most everyone here knows that and what my real intentions are and that is to help folks if i can and guide them anyway i can. All i ever have asked for was respect, period and nothing more.
woodyspedden Posted June 25, 2007 Share #168 Posted June 25, 2007  Your definition of obscenity and abuse must differ widely from mine:rolleyes: In case you did not notice, this is a photographic forum. That means that photographs will be posted. Lighten up!! I wanted to stay out of this but I just can't. Firstly, Guy Mancuso is a real gentleman, who spends a lot of his personal time working with Leica to get them to assure that the M8 becomes the product we all want. He doesn't get paid by either us or Leica for these efforts. Guy has demonstrated his photographic prowess any number of times on this forum as well as the forums on Fred Miranda which probably had more visits than any other in history. This trip was put together by Leica Academie for the pleasure of the participants only. Guy took it upon himself to bring others into the experience by posting both comments and images. Certainly this was not a place to try to demonstrate the power of the M8 images, although a few did a pretty fair job. If that were the goal there would have been any number of differing images to make those points. In other words folks, this was about sharing the pleasure! I aim the following comments specifically to Imants. I accept the fact that you are a bit of a curmudgeon and will often take a contrarian view. No problem, that is your choice. Here it appears that you would attempt to take whatever pleasure was intended and in most cases apparently received, and wreck it in the name of some unspecified artistic and technical perfection. That is sad, but mostly so for you. Your inability to simply enjoy what was offered speaks volumes about you and your view of life. By definition you are both welcome in this forum and to express your views. But the method of criticism you employ is so unspecific that it adds nothing to those who are reading your comments, rather it just throws cold water on the whole process. I have never been privileged to see any of your work.......only your commentary. Please educate all of us by posting your own work in a way that demonstrates where Guy's work is failing in your opinion. Perhaps in that context we could better accept what you have to say. plasticman Posted June 25, 2007 Share #173 Posted June 25, 2007 Come on Guy - you can take a little gentle criticism surely? As for the 'polite' PMs that you sent imants recently - are you really sticking with your story that those were so nice? Because I happened to see one of them. Come on and get over it - there are a few of us that don't like your manner, and others who think you are wonderful. A forum (like any human gathering) is always gonna be like this. Take it like everyone else.

ChrisC Posted June 25, 2007 Share #177 Posted June 25, 2007 Guy - I recall, several pages back, reminding you to post images so I [and others] could vicariously share your holiday. Most people wished you well for a good holiday break and I don't seriously think that anyone believed the images you were sending were other than postcards done on the run during a hectic, but fun schedule. It's a shame the fun element is endangered by an unnecessary pissing contest. Imant and you clearly rub each other up the wrong way, it's too late now but perhaps it would have been better had you ignored him and had another holiday beer as reward. For what it's worth, I kept reading in the hope that the thread would get back on course so that you and your fellow travellers could share more experiences from the trip. That's my reason getting this far in the thread. Evidently Imant is disinterested in this thread and wants it to be a different one; in his shoes I would have left this thread long ago and started that 'different one'. ....................Chris Edit -Damn. Slow typing has caught me out again, thanks for moving this on while I was hunting letters on my keyboard.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted June 25, 2007 Share #178 Posted June 25, 2007 Thanks Chris. In hindsight should learn to ignore better:D yes four castles is really not my cup of tea. LOL But it was still fun to visit but today i was burned out in Munich and just came back to the hotel to rest. Most folks or at least me never take tour trips so there designed to please most everyone and my idea would have been stop the Porche and let us play in the little towns with the farmers and ranchers and enjoy the day there more but it was not my call okay some 75mm cron for Jaap , really did not shoot to much with this but i know Al did and a few others and hopefully once they get settled inthey will post some with it. i have to say having the 75mm lux i will keep that but making a call between the 2 75's i think i would rather pull my hair out and deal with the pain. ther both extremely good Welcome, dear visitor! AlanJW Posted June 25, 2007 Share #179 Posted June 25, 2007 I was happy to see Guy's posts; the Academy trip looks like a fantastic experience. And this forum is all about disseminating information. I guess its also about disseminating opinions, but that also means people are free to disagree. I also think if someone offers criticism, that's fine, but it ought to be constructive criticism, not simply blanket personal taste condemnation. Here's my bottom line: I leaned an awful lot more from Guy's posts on this thread (not to mention the many other threads to which he has contributed) than I did from anyone who didn't care for his photos of the trip. I expect that will continue.
Guest stnami Posted June 25, 2007 Share #180 Posted June 25, 2007 Guy you have never e-mailed me and the only mail I got from you via the forum as a private message was full of threats and f this and f that........... polite?? so we can do without the lie. Do you really want me to dig it up and post it on the forum as I did last time when our posts were promptly removed. I don't think you would, anyway once was enough. I stated to the mod I wouldn't post on this thread unless you decided to chuck a lie or so to speak well you did. As the emailing point is now clarified, it is my last post on this thread, as for others sure send me a PM if you like I am happy to respond away from this thread so Guy can resume his holiday pictures in peace:o
