I shot this toward the end of December just prior to the lake freezing over and kind of forgot about it.

Little bit of sun here, too.  Been waiting to try out my old 3.5cm Summaron f/3.5.  Great color, not exactly a dull day lens, imo.

If I have the spot right, this makes me miss Kauai, I run this road up to Spouting Horn when there.

This road runs beside the ocean from the Sheraton to the Kukui‘ula shopping center. It is part of an ocean walk I do that starts at Brenneck's and goes to the Beach House and then back. It's about 4.5 miles and takes about an hour — more if I stop to talk to friends, watch whales, or the seals and turtles. I do it 3 or 4 times a week while my wife does a water aerobics class. The island's population has been mostly just locals this past year but that's slowly changing. Right now you'll only see a few people on the beach.

The palm trees are at the far end of the Sheraton Beach and the little waterfall is near the bridge where the Waikomo Stream crosses the road. The lava rocks where I photographed the fisherman (posted here last week) is where you can see 6 or 7 honu (sea turtles) grazing in the surf. Locals call that spot "the wall" and gather there to drink a beer and watch the sunset. The building on the end of the second shot is Whaler's Cove.

I have  two galleries of Poipu photos (Poipu & El Nino) and one of Kauai on my website. You might also want to look at the Paradise Lost gallery. I hauled my old Linhof back into Kalalau Valley back in 93 and made a series of platinum prints. That was another time when the island was deserted due to a direct hit from a cat 4 - 5 hurricane. Only a handful of hippies lived back in the valley then, completely undisturbed by helicopters and tour boats. It is probably like that now but I'm not sure I'm up to that hike these days.

Perhaps I'll see you on the island one day.

Part of the five miles from home series. I struggle to keep the look consistent when the light changes so drastically, but I’m not sure that matters.

Amazing.  How long was that exposure??  Or what did you brace the camera against/on?

1/8 of a second. I knelt on a rock and tucked my elbows then made a few exposures. This one was the closest to being sharp.

I keep meaning to take a tripod on these walks but...
