Leica Mayfair declares that the 16-18-21 WATE is not available for purchase online and directs you to other shops, which sounds like it's not available new anymore. Red Dot Cameras lists it as 'on back order', which suggests the same to me. I vaguely remember hearing that it was going to be ,or had been, discontinued but I might have imagined it. 🤔 Do you have any other info please, Enrico? Pete. lct Posted July 26, 2024 Share #13637 Posted July 26, 2024 The WATE is still listed on the Leica website. Fortunately, i would say, as i can hardly imagine what better zoom lens Leica could make in that focus range.
Mute-on Posted July 26, 2024 Share #13638 Posted July 26, 2024 (edited) The last few pages of this thread (if not its entirety) really reinforce two things for me. Firstly, 70+ year old lenses on modern digital sensors, not to mention film, are more than capable of producing seriously spectacular images. This challenges the obsession many of us have with the very latest, most technologically advanced lens formulations. Secondly, the M11M does produce exceptionally beautiful B&W tones to my eyes. Now, back to the images ….. Edited July 26, 2024 by Mute-on
CP93 Posted July 26, 2024 Share #13639 Posted July 26, 2024 I’m seeing plenty of them for sale online.
Ecar Posted July 26, 2024 Share #13640 Posted July 26, 2024 Although I'm not privy to Leica's product strategy, AFAIK the WATE is currently available (although on back order) on their website and at official dealers. I haven't seen any announcement that it's been discontinued. This has happened before and rumours of its demise have been popping up every few years - most likely due to the fact that it's a low-volume, slow-moving SKU and that Leica is known for scheduling lens production in batches. If history repeats itself, I'd expect the WATE to be readily available again once the next batch comes out of the line. Of course, they will decide to take it off the product list at some point - if they already have, it's not official yet.
