The bokeh in the second image is as beautiful as I've ever seen from any lens.

Not actual art, nor a Photoshop effect. Just focused on a slanted window on a slow, rainy afternoon...

Just noticed that my previous post quoted (again) a post made by fotografr. That was unintended. A software glitch, I guess...

I've been called a lot of things but this is the first time somebody called me a software glitch. 😉

A couple of illustrative shots from an unusual lens that was originally designed for the Contax II. Shortly thereafter, a dedicated version was also produced for the Robot. I remember reading somewhere that there was allegedly some internal competition between the CZJ design teams in charge of this Biotar 40/2 and the contemporary Sonnar 40/2 (as found on the Tenax II) respectively. Both lenses were manufactured in small numbers, although the Robot version of the Biotar is not too hard to find.

To keep this thread free of too many technical questions I opened a new thread about the 1:2/40mm Biotar here:

Thanks, Uli, that should help to keep this thread for just pictures as was the original intention.

Pete.

Yes, and I appreciate your diligence to keep the original thread "clean". I already thought of a corresponding thread "Technical questions about 'A view through older Glass", though I fear both will get mixed up. So if there are additional questions individual threads can serve them as well.

... OR, a technical question can perhaps be supported by a new picture post (whatever the lens, as long as it's "old glass")😉

M10P ASC + converted (from Contax) 1935 CZJ Biotar 40/2, probably wide open
