Cheers Gentlemen. I'll look into this. Of course I could minimize the impact of the bowl by going panda....damn this configurator sure makes it easy to spend money :D

I'm personally not a fan of the panda look  but agree about how seductive the configurator is.:D I've often been tempted by this (with black collar and shoe):

. Since I mainly shoot B&W film these days, I am also feeling the pull of the Monochrom for the same price.....but then there is an M10 around the corner....in addition,

..... followed by the inevitable M10 Monochrome.

Well, assuming the M9M is a huge success, Leica will deplete their stock of CCD sensors fairly quickly and up pops the CMOS M10 version. :D

I got as far as this, then the Monochrom came along.

I have the opportunity to purchase an MP-3 with matching Leicavit....new! It is one of the most beautiful cameras I have ever held....currently have an M6 and M4-P and there is nothing wrong with them. Purchase price is $8500...
I've used an MP3 for a few years and nothing has happened to it yet, the paint job seems to be really good on it too. I don't worry about my equipment at all though. I have the kit lens which as I'm sure you know is a physical copy of the v.1 pre-ASPH 50 Summilux. It's a nice lens and smaller than the regular 50 ASPH. It takes a 53mm filter with a 0.5mm thread pitch just like the original, just so that you know.

Wasn't he MP-3's "kit lens" a 50 lux asph with 43mm filter?

For my BP alc m7 I requested and received a a black shutter release collar and black hot shoe for free, they were not able to give me black strap lugs though. Also the hot shoe and shutter release collar are black chrome, not black paint.

Yes it was. I'm sorry I didn't make that clear enough in my original post but the point I was trying to make was that the 43mm filter size includes the quirky 0.5mm thread pitch that was used in the original 50mm Summilux lenses. The MP3 kit lens is ASPH but is a physical copy of the pre-ASPH 50 Summilux v.1. The pic below shows L to R a pre-ASPH 50 Summilux v.2, and silver and black MP3 kit lenses. All three have the 43mm filter thread. The last pre-ASPH 50 Summilux has a 46mm filter thread with a regular 0.75mm thread pitch.

Wow, do you have them all?

Well I did have them all, yes. However over the years the pre-ASPH 50 Summilux v.2 was replaced with a BP copy of the last pre-ASPH 50 which has a 0.7M closest focus. Then later the silver ASPH was replaced with a Noctilux, so now I just have the black MP3 kit lens.

I also have the "millenium" (bp) version of the lux pre-asph, 0,7m focus. I love the focussing ring and the bokeh, and the 46mm Filter diameter. Is your MP3 still good working? How much brassing, mine is in excellent condition, brassing only on the straps and the rewind- knob. Greetings from Germany, Philip

Update: I now have an MP for a 1 week trial run. It's smooth, but my M6 is smoother...the MP is more akin to my 1980 M4-P in terms of smoothness, which is a bit of a surprise considering the M4-P uses a steel gear train. As well, the MP shutter release requires a bit more travel before the shutter trips. The M6 and M4-P are hair triggers by comparison. The MP VF is superior to the M4-P and M6, no surprise there, and yet it makes little difference when I am actually shooting as I am able to achieve identical focussing accuracy with all three bodies. In all honesty, I was hoping for a much more amped up experience in using the MP, but that has not yet been the case......maybe in a weeks time I will have changed my mind.

It's still working fine, and the brassing on mine is minimal. The body seems to have a very good paint job, unlike the lens which hasn't been used that much but shows a lot of brass already.
