And the EVF you don't have to buy  Dhaaa I thought is was compulsory !!!!

Neither Live View nor the EVF make the camera bigger

It's about making a simpler more streamlined camera without being something to please everyone and  end up pleasing  no one.  Small is possible ;)

Any additions like a external evf are design flaw, credit card fiend or a company just taking the easy way out

The more electronics you put in an M, the faster the obsolescence of the camera. Best would be for electronics like EVF to be kept optional and outside the M body. Even then options would be limited by the 'future proof' design of the hot shoe. I would be very happy with an M with a great sensor and rangefinder, good low light performance and ability capture RAW.

Now this is a really huge camera, given that its sensor is only half the width of the sensor of the M. If small is possible, why is the Fuji more than half the width of the M?

Pre fuji these cameras were a lot bigger ........ Sony manages with smaller cameras The thing is it is possible  remember so many stated that a digital rangefinder was impossible so making it smaller is not impossible but for now  it is just easier to sell attachments and update cameras  in small increments of change

............then we have that famous  smokescreen called special editions

The Fuji is scarcely smaller even though its sensor is much smaller. What's your point?

The fuji is a lot smaller to handle  and does not need external attachments etc .............The thing is it is possible  to make a slimmer camera as with the old film Leicas  it is just easier to sell attachments and update cameras  in small increments of change

Dave  A slimmer camera is what should be offered

As said, I prefer a larger camera.  I went to Fuji XE-1 because of its form...rangefinder form.  And something to hold on to.

I wouldn't mind a slimmer M, but I've got used to the digital M's fat form, and weight.

The Fuji is a wonderful camera and I'm sure Leica has been watching their evolution.

But can you find one? The problem is that by adding the EVF as a permanent fixture to the top of an M, maybe have a grip as well, and at least from base to finder, its now close to a good size FF DSLR.  But nothing else you're going to carry with it is at that scale.  DSLR bags are designed for DSLR sized lenses.  Mirrorless bags are designed to fit mirrorless sized bodies. So either the camera fit is tight or the glass tends to flop around.  If you're looking a simple over the shoulder solution, there aren't a lot of choices.

There are some bags which are a little flexible in the depths. For example I use and like the think tank retrosperctive line.

The same "request" has been there with the optical 21mm viewfinder I have used for 21mm lenses on film M bodies for the last 30 years.

Sure but all the A7 bodies have the bump you dislike haven't they. My Fuji X-E2 has not that bump but its EVF is smaller and it is an APS-C camera.
