Leica M 10

We have had discussion about M240's thickness many times. I remember posting one pic with caliper measuring M240's thickness (of body not including thumb protrusion). It was very close to M9. In fact my half case of M9 did fit M240 with some tightness.

I can't see a picture John.

There must be someone around with a standard M and M9 and a pair of callipers though.

But like you, it doesn't worry me at all, but it does seem to concern some people who I believe mistakenly take the M 240 to be appreciably thicker than its predecessor. Some even avoided buying it for that reason, or so they said.

I posted that already -baseplates compared- three times. There is a time I won't do so again. Now.

They will only kill it if they kill it's unique identity.

as is it's unique identity is from another century

I see the frame selector on the M10 as a  regression

There is a  market for a modern M

I know this might be largely speculation, but might the introduction of the M10 cause M9 prices to decline slightly? Or are these really very different markets so the M10 introduction will have little affect on the M9 market at this stage?  I suspect Jaap is correct in thinking M10 prices at introduction will be similar to other new digital Ms.

If it is not retained in the 'modern M' if any i will vote for the regression then. This accessory (ouch! i meant feature of course) has always been useful for me.

Yep, me too.

And this feature is so old and useless that Fuji included it in the X-Pro2... but in this modern camera you can only see 4 framelines instead on 6 framelines on the M9, albeit simultaneously.

Honestly what is this obsession over the thickness, I just don't get it there is no more that 4mm difference between an M3 and M240. who cares

Does it really upset the way you handle a camera if it was 4mm thicker ??

is anyone out there not able to photograph with an M240 because it is 4mm thicker ??

Amen.

For someone who's first Leica was an M4-2, I much prefer as lightweight and small a rangefinder as possible. It's the same reason I've stayed with Summicrons. Depending on the buffer size, the M10 sounds like the perfect replacement/back-up camera for my M9-P.

Does the frame selector imply that they haven't fixed the bug of showing pairs of frame lines? A switch like that is not really suitable for more than three positions.

I use my phone and a frame line app when I am in doubt and not a hurry.
