Rus Posted December 16, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 16, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) So with all the rumours about the new M10 being similar in dimensions to the film M bodies, I did a quick search online about the dimensions of the existing film M bodies and came across this site: http://www.apotelyt.com/photo-camera/leica-m Inside that link you'll find a table listing all the dimensions of the film M cameras, followed later by another table listing the same of the digital M cameras. I didn't realise that the film M bodies differ in terms of thickness (or depth) by as much as 4mm! So I wonder if anyone with more than one M bodies, no matter digital or film, may perhaps care to share a few photos of these cameras side by side, so that we may get a more concrete sense of their differences in thickness? It's quite surprising to find, for example, that the M7 is in fact 1mm thicker than the M9! P.S I don't really know whether to post this in the film sub-forum or the M240/262 sub-forum. TomB_tx Posted December 16, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 16, 2016 This confuses basic body thickness with overall assembly thickness, which includes add dials, battery caps, etc. that protrude and increase the assembly thickness, which is what they list. The bottom plates of the film Ms are essentially the same dimensions, so the basic body did not suffer bloat.

Jeff S Posted December 16, 2016 Share #6 Posted December 16, 2016 Interesting. My M8.2 and M240 base plates are virtually identical in size. And I think the M8.2 is the same size as the M9....but I haven't compared those plates. Jeff

earleygallery Posted December 16, 2016 Share #8 Posted December 16, 2016 I don't think that link is accurate. I'm pretty sure that all the film bodies share a common 'chassis' (apart from the M5) and are the same depth and length. The M6TTL has a taller top plate. Other minor differences will be down to things like the ISO dial on the back plate.
