Mr.Q Posted November 24, 2016 Share #221 Posted November 24, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) 1.Could you tell us the exact difference in thickness between the M8 sensor assembly and the M one? Just throwing out "with present technology" is rather unconvincing. 2.Everybody agrees that if the sides of the camera were slimmer the mount would protrude more, if the sensor plane remains the same. Nothing new there. I'm not sure why you mentioned the M8? What I do know is that the body of the M9 and M240 is 37mm thick. The flangeback distance is 27.8mm, which places the sensor plane at 9.2mm from the back of the camera. The sensor plane of the RX1, which is a 4 year old camera, is located less than 6mm from the back of the camera. So with "present technology," the sensor of the M can be placed further back by at least 3mm. BTW I am perfectly happy with the thickness of current M cameras. I'm just saying that moving the sensor backwards is possible.
Advertisement Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Hi Mr.Q, Take a look here Leica M 10. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted November 24, 2016 Share #222 Posted November 24, 2016 The RX1 is a camera with an integrated lens/sensor unit, a different animal altogether. The M8 is the original digiM, I gave you the maximal time span
Xspider Posted November 30, 2016 Share #223 Posted November 30, 2016 Did anybody yet consider that this could be a replacement of the M-E? The M-E is heavily discounted and/or out of stock?
microview Posted November 30, 2016 Share #224 Posted November 30, 2016 Well, end of November and the new model has yet to be announced .
Vec Posted November 30, 2016 Share #225 Posted November 30, 2016 Did anybody yet consider that this could be a replacement of the M-E? The M-E is heavily discounted and/or out of stock? My guess is that it's unlikely. The FCC filings, which I have no reason to doubt since it's coming from a government site not just a rumors blog state that it has built-in WiFi. This seems like an upgrade from existing equipment; from looking at what Leica has done in the past the new features get added to the highest end (at the moment) models. (This is in contrast to Canon, which seems to add newer, less proven, features to the 5D series first)

Peter Kilmister Posted November 30, 2016 Share #229 Posted November 30, 2016 Santa Claus is a myth. Father Christmas is real. My parents told me that and they never lied. French people will support me. They have Pere Noel as their benefactor. He is the only one able to climb down chimneys and use reindeer. The other is a commercial farce and uses a horse-pulled sleigh. Sadly life is far from reality in the land of make believe ruled by Walt Disney and Trumptown puppets. Where is the truth? However if Santa can bring me a Leica camera he is welcome. Father Christmas used to bring me a lump of coal if I was lucky. Deary me, I'm falling into the trap of commerce over sense. Lump of coal! lump of coal! ...... pure luxury ................ we might get tiny piece of kindling .... if we was lucky. Paul J Posted December 1, 2016 Share #231 Posted December 1, 2016 I may well be surprised but I have accepted the M will never be what I want it to be. It seems to me Leica are winding the the development of it down and keeping it a novelty, niche, historical camera. This is a great shame to me but oh well, time to move on and work with what I need to. Nothing renders like the way my Leica lenses do and that is a bitter pill to swallow - I wish rendering was all that you have to worry about, the way the image looks, but I have other needs which are not being addressed with this system that unfortunately move rendering, which is what I consider as most important, to the back seat of the car being driven by necessity. Boo.
Rick Posted December 1, 2016 Share #232 Posted December 1, 2016 If, as the rumor site reports, the M will have the same Q/SL sensor type, then why the delays? It would seem that a camera that is expected to be evolutionary at best would be here now. Me thinks there is more to the new M and sensor than is rumored. Rick - I think we are all going to want one.

Since M10 is going to be released on MM/DD/YYYY. B ) No. There is still a window in M10 development cycle. Since M10 is going to be released on MM/DD/YYYY. C ) Maybe. Let me call Leica right away before they release M10 on MM/DD/YYYY. D ) It does not matter since M10 is going to be released on MM/DD/YYYY. Please pick one and make sure YYYY is correctly filled.
