jaapv Posted August 18, 2016 Share #21 Â Posted August 18, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm still on the fence; my main concern right now is the longevity of the SL line from Leica. I don't want to dump all of my Nikon gear, switch to the SL and have Leica discontinue it after a year or two. I may wait to see what's announced at Photokina. That is highly unlikely. Advertisement Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Did you trade your DSLR for an SL?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
seekwul Posted August 18, 2016 Share #22 Â Posted August 18, 2016 I figured it was going to be with us for a while... but I have a habit of buying into technologies right before they're killed. I know they've invested a lot into this though. Â Â So I'm taking advantage of the "Test Drive an SL" program and have one here under my desk. I fear this is going to be a costly exercise. Ingo Posted August 19, 2016 Share #23  Posted August 19, 2016 I sold my complete Canon gear (except Fisheye and 17mm TS-E). Now I'm using a Q and two SLs with the 24-90, 90-280, two M-lenses and a Zeiss. For studio portraits I still use a Phase One XF body with IQ250 back. But I really consider to use the SL also in studio and get rid of the P1 (I don't need 50 megapixel) since the tethering software is available.
helged Posted August 19, 2016 Share #24 Â Posted August 19, 2016 I am so satisfied with the SL that I sold the M240 - but kept the M246. M-lenses on SL works wonderfully, and with the M246 in-house, I enjoy shooting with an optical viewfinder when I am in that kind of mood...
jankojanko Posted August 23, 2016 Share #25 Â Posted August 23, 2016 I sold all my Nikon gear. Loving the SL for all kinds of work. Not ready to give up on my M.....
gerhard.hagen Posted August 23, 2016 Share #26  Posted August 23, 2016 The same is true for me. I sold my M240, and most of my Canon lenses with the exception of the TSE 17, 24 and the 100-400 II, which i solely use with my aging EOS 1D Mark IV for animals.  For everything else i use the SL with both zooms and an assortment of M lenses.  Sincerely  Gerhard
HeinzX Posted August 23, 2016 Share #27  Posted August 23, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I sold my 5 D III plus the 24/70 2.8 II and my M240 plus lenses and got the SL plus 24/90. I kept the 11/24, the MP-E 65, the 100 mm Macro the 180 mm Macro and the 70/200 2.8 IS  II USM - all from Canon. These  lenses work well together with the Novoflex Adapter.  Maybe I go later on for a 90/280, but I am not so sure. Bill W Posted August 24, 2016 Share #28 Â Posted August 24, 2016 After playing with one today, I am seriously considering it.....
Jeffry Abt Posted August 24, 2016 Share #29 Â Posted August 24, 2016 I would sell my Nikon kit if the SL was up to the job for sports work. As things stand now, I must hold on to my Nikon D4 and a few long lenses for sports work. But I have been very tempted by the SL. (The Leica digital M cameras stole my heart away from Nikon years ago.)
meerec Posted August 24, 2016 Share #30 Â Posted August 24, 2016 Sold Canon 5D3 and all my L lenses. Kept 1D4 and 300/2.8L II for wildlife. Everything else is SL with various M lenses and the 90-280 zoom.
douglas fry Posted August 24, 2016 Share #31  Posted August 24, 2016 Yes traded two 1DX's and 6 lenses, I have been a full time professional photographer for over 25 years. I now use an M240 and SL with M lenses, and much prefer the process of shooting and the files.  The key issue for me though was the switch to manual focus  The great thing about MF is low light, there is no hunting for focus. The rangefinder camera has no mirrors etc to denude the light levels so I find the wedding dancing shots easy. The SL has freekin incredible viewfinder with an augmented reality clarity..  The caveat here is that it took a while to train myself back to tracking moving subjects, to just rotate the barrel at the correct speed to match the couple walking up the aisle...But again it isn't that difficult, and yesterday's wedding in St Wilfrids Chapel within Brompton Oratory, a dingy place within a dingy church were all in focus.  But for me the more important reason was to bring a sense of craft back to my photography, simple dials with manual focus means I have a greater sense of achievement and control, if it's a good image then I made it so by getting all the settings correct. I did feel when using the Canon 1DX's that I was for a large part a machine operator which took the pleasure away.  Every time I get the cameras out now I have already made an assessment about the lighting, just a guess of course but I get better as time goes on, so I can set the shutter and aperture as I bring the camera up and I have it more or less right every time.  Of course these cameras would be completely the wrong choice if I shot football etc, but my daily mix of corporate annual report illustration and weddings, they are a perfect pairing.

Even better than on the Canon. Focusing is dead easy. You should consider getting one.  Gordon
eprom Posted November 17, 2016 Share #33 Â Posted November 17, 2016 I traded all my Nikon gear (D810, D800e, 20 2.8, 24-70, 24 1.4, 35 1.4, 58 1.4, 85 1.8, 80-200 2.8) and shooting now with S-E, SL and Q.
Per P. Posted November 18, 2016 Share #34 Â Posted November 18, 2016 Yep, I also burnt my bridges by selling my 5D II and 8 very good lenses plus bits and bobs. This is the second time I've sold off Canon kit to fund Leica. First time was for the M8 - maybe a smidge premature. This time I don't think I'll look back. Â What can the SL do.... Well, it can do pretty much anything a SLR can do. But it does it in style, I can reuse M and R lenses, and the list of features I don't need is short - as opposed to long and forever growing. It's just a joy to behold and to use.
dasjak Posted November 18, 2016 Share #35  Posted November 18, 2016 Yes! Sold my Canon 5DIII and my lenses except the 17-40. No regrets! I just wished the SL had  the battery life of the 5D :/
avitanza Posted December 8, 2016 Share #36 Â Posted December 8, 2016 I recently traded in all my pro Canon equipment and purchased a Leica SL with 24-90mm lens. I also added the M 240 M-P with the 28mm f/2.0 to my M240 with the APO 50mm f/2.0...All is fine and I am very happy with the decision. My next purchase will be the SL 90-280 with the SL multi-functional handgrip for the SL..
geetee1972 Posted December 8, 2016 Share #37 Â Posted December 8, 2016 I sold my Sony A7rII and all the lenses to get the SL and a single 50mm Summilux.
Per P. Posted December 8, 2016 Share #38 Â Posted December 8, 2016 I'm helping a friend putting together a Fuji bag. That really puts things into perspective - he doesn't need to trade in ANYTHING in order to get a lot of merchandise :-)
FlashGordonPhotography Posted December 8, 2016 Share #39 Â Posted December 8, 2016 I'm helping a friend putting together a Fuji bag. That really puts things into perspective - he doesn't need to trade in ANYTHING in order to get a lot of merchandise :-) Â It could be argued, depending on the individual, that the reason they're selling their other gear isn't always cost but because the SL now makes that gear redundant. Â I have a comprehensive Fujifilm kit with all current bodies. The kit as wonderful and very capable. However if it and my SL kit were to go missing I would replace the SL kit immediately regardless of cost. I could do everything I need with my SL kit. I could not do everything I need even if I owned every lens Fuji makes. Â Gordon
Bill W Posted December 8, 2016 Share #40 Â Posted December 8, 2016 My SL will be here tomorrow but the wife is going to wrap it and put it under the Christmas tree. I can wait, I know it....!
