StS Posted June 9, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good morning, I just wondered, whether it would be useful to add something like a Leicapaedia (or would it be Leicapedia?) to the forum. I'm convinced we have a vast amount of Leica-knowledge which can be pooled from our users. As part of this concept we could also add 'online operating manuals' for Leicas. I wouldn't be surprised if we could cover all Leicas which have ever been made. Coming from people having sometimes decades of experience in using Leicas such manuals could be more helpful than the standard manuals. What do you think? Advertisement Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Hi StS, Take a look here Leicapaedia in the Leica camera user forum?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LUF Admin Posted June 9, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 9, 2007 Something like this? http://l-camera-forum.com/leicawiki/index.php/Hauptseite It's also beta and only german but could be translated... Andreas
StS Posted June 10, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted June 10, 2007 Great minds think alike I could live with German for obvious reasons and am passing on the question about the need for an English Leica Wiki to the rest of the forum.
farnz Posted July 23, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 23, 2007 I'd like an English Leicawiki bitte weil Ich spreche nicht Deutsches gut! (Thank goodness for Babelfish.) Pete
andybarton Posted July 23, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 23, 2007 I'd say that an English translation would be essential if Andreas is to move this forward.
luigi bertolotti Posted July 23, 2007 Share #6 Posted July 23, 2007 Good idea: the layout of the German beta is good... have it in two languages would be against the concept of the Leicapedia... I'l suggest to carry on the project in English only...
jaapv Posted July 24, 2007 Share #7 Posted July 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why would it be against the concept? The only thing is that all contributions would have to be translated one on one by somebody. Personally I am neutral as to language, both would be fine, but I can see more German contributors fluent in English than the other way around. luigi bertolotti Posted July 24, 2007 Share #8 Posted July 24, 2007 Sorry, I wasn't clear in my exposition: I wanted to point that if a "Leicapedia" is to be envisioned, it has to be ONE, and of course better if in english... wouldn't like two different Leicapedias... I say this for, being me about 1-2% fluent in German, I sometime regret not to be able to read something interesting in the German forum...
LUF Admin Posted July 25, 2007 Share #9 Posted July 25, 2007 Folks, give me some time and some more good suggestions for Leicapedia content! We need some stuff that brings peple to contribute! Regards from somewhere on the North Sea Andreas
earleygallery Posted July 25, 2007 Share #10 Posted July 25, 2007 Good idea - I'd find stuff useful like camera specs (differences between various models), Lens info - variants, key differences i.e. 35-70 R zooms or 3.5 Elmars, serial numbers by year etc., LTM accessory codes i.e. what is a Nooky or a Zookey or whatever! Images - famous Leica photographers and their work (subject to copyright permissions I guess)
sdai Posted July 26, 2007 Share #11 Posted July 26, 2007 Just my humble two cents ... since you're pulling more pieces together, Andreas. Perhaps it's time to think about an overhaul of the web site. Have you looked at a decent CMS such as the Joomla or Drupal? Forums, galleries, RSS feeds, wiki, online merchant system can be easily added as plugins.
