Not as odd as that the S to L adaptor doesn’t work on the CL. The double adaptor issue makes sense in that it’s two protocol translations in a row. Probably not something the camera processor can handle.

That I knew already ... strange as well, I agree.  As for the reason, I'd put my money more on marketing strategy.

I agree, if Leica wants the L-Mount to be kind of a ‘universal’ mount for Leica lenses, S lenses should work on APS-C camera’s with L-Mount too. Maybe they’re a bit cautious because of the weight of the heavier MF lenses on the smaller camera’s, but I can support the lens with my hand and I’m one of those users who’d like to one day try my 120mm f2,5 CS on a small high density sensor.

The same goes for Contax and Hasselblad adapters, make it truly universal and leave the choice up to the end users.

Ordered my X1D now :)

Congrats. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Before you do anything update the firmware. Every new firmware has made significant changes to the cameras operation and features. The only other advice I have is to treat it like an M camera when you shoot. Slow and steady.

Actually, I have one more. Protect the highlights. The highlight roll off is steep. The shadows are almost infinitely recoverable.

Thanks, any thoughts on lenses?

Ordered it with 90mm

Could get a 45mm for £1500, but considered if I should get a 30mm instead

All the lenses are good. The 30mm is marginally better than the 45 but both are so good it's not an issue to shoot either. Depends if you need a 35 or 24 equivalent. You'll like the 90. Very nice lens.

I'm really looking forward to the next three (65, fast 80 and the zoom). I just got my 21mm (17) and it looks to be really really good.

I am really interested in the 80mm too, but understand from a comversation between Hasselblad retailer in London and Hasselblad that we not see this lens anytime soon

Are the XCD lenses for the X1D made by Fuji? I thought Zeiss was the supplier of lenses to H'Blad.

Zeiss made Blad lenses in the past but these all say made in Japan. The body in Sweden. FWIW, they are extremely well made. For some the lens hood are a tight fit but I solved that by taking a cloth and spraying silicone on it and rubbing just the surfaces where the hood meets the front of the lens.

I would second that all of the XCD lens are very good or excellent or whatever you want to say. They focus fast enough for me. I have made a pig of myself and bought all of them so far. I am interested in the zoom as well.

Incidentally, Nittoh is the same company that made the excellent lenses for the Hasselblad XPan, which was a Fuji. And the 3 focal lengths for that camera are the same as the first three for the X1D... 30, 45 and 90. Tradition meets modern.

Congratulation with your new X1D, you will enjoy it.

All XCD lenses are great, so make your choice :-) (out of 5)
I had my first day out with the black X1D yesterday and the results are fantastic.

Good luck

I heard that too. HB stated that it's slated for later in the year, which is probably next year. I got a great deal on a HC100mm f2.2 in the mean time. Now where as sharp as the XC lenses wide open but a lovely portrait lens. Think 75 lux. Portrait wide open. Super sharp a stop and a half down. What I really want next is either the 65mm or the zoom. There's a big hole in the middle right around the *50* mark that needs to be filled. I'm a 50mm guy. (1st word problem alert!!)

The X1D is quickly becoming my go to kit where eve I can use it with the SL/CL still having an important working role. I'm also using a Sony A7R3 for high res work with TS lenses until Leica make the SL2. Been having a bit of a re-kindle with the M10 as a walk around camera. Quite satisfied and have a good idea of what's staying/going now.

Unfortunately I've had two S lens motors fail in the last two weeks. Really NOT feeling the love for that one right now.
