I'm a bit obsessed with Hummingbirds. I simply love the challenge of photographing them and using the Q is an added dimension. The Q has superb image quality allowing heavy cropping and still having a sharp image. The Leica Q application using wifi is anything but easy. I find it drops out every 1-5 minutes requiring making another connection. Frustrating. Still, this morning I specifically wanted to try macro photography on the hummingbirds. I even tried it with the Hoya 10X macro filter, but that was a bust. Nothing came out in focus and the DOF was so small it just did not work for a subject so large as a Hummingbird. LOL. So, I used regular macro mode and my Canon Ring flash on manual. f/11, ISO 100, shutter 1/500, flash power 1/64. This is the ONLY image I got worth showing and even it has a clipped wing. So, I attempted to fix the wing in photoshop with some success. You can see the before and after. It's fun and not something Demitris can do since there are no hummingbirds in the U.K. :-)

Great shot Dan and I could never find out that you added the clipped wing back in photoshop!!  I also like how you darken the background. Did you use Nik software for that? Ken has achieved some great results recently using it and I am thinking to start experimenting with it. As for the hummingbirds I wish there were some here but alas! The only birds you see around are oversized sea gulls!

Thanks Demitris. No, didn’t use any other sw. Just photoshop. I selected the background then did an average filter on it. That did the trick. Earlier I tried a black fill but I thought it too harsh.

Found this guy in my house tonight. Now, I'm afraid to go to bed. My wife said he might be a cousin of Aragon from Harry Potter and I should be very afraid. Yikes!

I'm thinking I might need a wizard's wand.

I used the Hoya 10X macro filter and a Canon ring flash.
