CheshireCat Posted February 21, 2016 Share #2 Posted February 21, 2016 Anyone using their old M9 Thumbs Up on their 240? Is the only cavet the hindered thumbwheel scroll? I used a similar thing and it bent and chipped my M240 paint. Don't know if the actual Thumbs Up has the same problem.
azuled Posted February 21, 2016 Share #3 Posted February 21, 2016 I don't have it in front of me to test, but from memory it was too long and would not sit flush given then thumb wheel. It wasn't that it obstructed but that it couldn't sit flush against the camera.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted February 22, 2016 Share #4 Posted February 22, 2016 Much prefer the Thumbie to the thumbs up because it doesn't block or put undue stress on the hot shoe. Cheaper too. Gordon
stump4545 Posted February 22, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted February 22, 2016 If old M9 thumbs up did not sit flush with the camera body, did this cause a problem?
Soden Posted February 22, 2016 Share #6 Posted February 22, 2016 It depends on which version of the TU, the older one sits flush, the newer one hits the thumb wheel. I had a problem with the Thumbie, it just never stayed attached.

Soden Posted February 22, 2016 Share #8 Posted February 22, 2016 I have two Thumbie and requested additional tape. The shortest time attached was two hours and the longest was a week.
stump4545 Posted February 23, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted February 23, 2016 Anyone here try the Titanium Thumbs Up on their M? Looks spiffy and is supposed to weight less...
sblutter Posted April 23, 2016 Share #10 Posted April 23, 2016 On M9P I started with Thumbs Up CSEP-1 (I coated the business end with several coats of liquid rubber) - but then found the Thumbie, loved it, left it on. Wonderful design Recently I got a M240 & ordered the corresponding Thumbie, the native little protrusion by the wheel doesn't provide enough stability. However, while I was waiting, I sudenly remembered the old Thumbie and dug it out. Not bad, & doesn't get in the way of the wheel at all. Looks like CSEP-1S would Then the Thumbie 240 arrived, put it on... just not the same grip / leverage for the heavier 240 body. I'm going with the CSEP-1 for now. Camera is very solid in the hand, is especially useful with slower shutter speeds or heavier lenses. As for harming the hot shoe, I'm not seeing that as possible unless intentional damage were contemplated. If I ever need the hot shoe, just slip it off I don't know if this matters; my hands are large, glove size XXXL Its a trade off: Thumbs up, more stable (think LV focusing) Thumbie; streamlined elegance and certainly useful They're both good - I suggest people try them out 1st hand. I'm happy we have options!
lct Posted April 23, 2016 Share #11 Posted April 23, 2016 I would never rely on tapes to hold any camera but YMMV. Been using Thumbs Up since day one on both M8.2 and M240. Irreplaceable goodies to me.
easy_action Posted April 24, 2016 Share #12 Posted April 24, 2016 I have the original Thumbs Up EP-1 on my M8.2. I really like it, and when I came accross the EP-10s (for the M240) at a good price I snapped it up in the hope that one day I might be able to use it. Out of curiosity I tried to fit the EP-10s to the M8.2 and found that it doesn't fit. The depth of brass that slides under the hot shoe is slightly greater in the EP-10s compared to the EP-1, perhaps 1mm or so. I was surprised because I assumed that they would be interchangeable. Anyone else notice the same thing?
lct Posted April 24, 2016 Share #13 Posted April 24, 2016 TU's are tightly fit to specific bodies si i would not expect any interchangeability there. Never tried to do the swap though.
Musotographer Posted April 24, 2016 Share #14 Posted April 24, 2016 Really. I've had them on both M9's and both M's. Rock solid on every camera. Never had one even look like it was coming off. Gordon +1 - if you've followed the attaching instructions carefully there shouldn't be a problem.
azuled Posted April 24, 2016 Share #15 Posted April 24, 2016 I tried the m9 thumbs up on the 240, but it doesn't work as the device is longer than the space available, it won't fit into the hot shoe as it cannot sit against the body of the camera due to the wheel. I had hoped it would work as I was fond of the m-e grey of the old one, but it would simply not.
Rick Posted April 25, 2016 Share #16 Posted April 25, 2016 Not a bad product but, never could get used to it jabbing me in the side when I carry my camera bandolier style, as I do. RickBandit

RickBandit yes this x1000. It's OK when walking around, but when you are crammed into a train car suddenly it's pressing into you in the most unpleasant way. easy_action Posted April 26, 2016 Share #18 Posted April 26, 2016 TU's are tightly fit to specific bodies si i would not expect any interchangeability there. Never tried to do the swap though. I thought that the physical dimensions of 'standard hot shoes' were all the same (and defined by the International Organization for Standardization ISO 518:2006 if my brief googling is correct). Perhaps the need to accomodate the EVF2 acccounts for the difference?
lct Posted April 26, 2016 Share #19 Posted April 26, 2016 The design of the bodies is not the same. Think of the M240's rear control wheel for instance. EVFs are not usable with Thumbs Up BTW.
