I ordered one a little over a month ago & he sent me an email saying it would probably be longer than the usual 8 weeks to get one due to a backlog of orders.  That's kind of bad new too I guess, but will be quickly forgotten the day it finally arrives!

I use cloth Voigtlander straps, now sold under the A&A name.  Going on 15 years of use now and showing no wear.  Soft, supple, wind around the body for bag placement with very little added bulk.

And they weigh at least 100g less than a thick leather strap.  About the difference between an M240 and M262.

I prefer silk to leather.

Straps.

Camera straps.

Ditto. I only use the Artisan & Artist silk chord.

Supple, light, versatile, nonintrusive, double as a wrist-strap too, small in bags, etc.

I just ordered an new camera strap today. The Harry Benz...... best damn camera strap on the planet.

And the bad news is the way they are made I'll never need another.

You'll never need another. Want is a different story.

Maybe I received a defective AA silk strap but mine frays each time I use it. The frays come by the rings. Because of this I don't trust the strap and have since purchased another.

Not sure if anyone else has had this issue but figured I would mention it. The Arte Di Mano straps are excellent.

Mines are 2 and 3 years old and don't fray at all. Used everyday.

I've used mine more or less every day for nearly six years now and it's as good as new, genuinely.

The rings don't touch the silk anyway. I don't quite understand how the problem's occurred.

I have the flat plaited one http://leicastoremiami.com/products/neck-strap-artisan-artist-silk-green and it seems to be holding up quite well. Was yours like this or was it the more cord like variety?

Are there other nice flat plaited neck straps like the AA one that aren't cheap nylon or at least don't feel like the cheap nylon. I want to give one to a young friend and $240 is just a bit too much. I really love the super flexible lithe way this one moves and wraps around a wrist and want to share that with her. Leather is not her thing -- period. It would come back with a scolding letter.

  • 3 weeks later...

I have Harry's Vintage Brown B strap on my Safari - it's the best strap I've ever owned.  My Domke straps and Black Rapid straps are now perpetually unemployed.

And the bad news is the way they are made I'll never need another.

@ECohen, the solution is simple:  You will need to buy more M cameras in order to need more of Harry's straps.

Who is Harry?

I didn't even know what brand my straps are.  I had to go look.  I have a Domke on my M4-P and a LowePro on my M9P.   They keep the camera around my neck.

Sometimes here,  I feel like just one of the peasants peering through the gate at the Palace of Versailles sometime before the French Revolution.

I have the A&A silk straps, and frankly there just too short. Harry's straps are made to order in any (reasonable) length. Made of water buffalo so it's tough and doesn't stretch. I have one on each of my Leica's. Love them.

I have several A&A silk straps put away, I don't expect to use them again..

I use this, it is quite practical as one can cut a large number of straps from it. :)

I think you are kidding jaapv, but I do make my own straps for most of my cameras. 10 years ago I bought 50 meteres of nylon climbing webbing (the flat stuff) and a box of plastic guides.  Whenever I need a new strap I cut off a couple meters and heat crimp the ends. The webbing is good for 300 lbs, so I suspect the camera lugs will fail before it does.

Out of interest, how (or why) did you acquire several straps that are all too short for you?

Anyway, you could give them to people who would appreciate them, and make a few people happy including yourself.
