PS Q2M and Q2 seems like a “dream pairing”

I'm photographing a birthday party this afternoon - I will be using a pair of Sony A1 trying to choose between 24/35/50/85 primes..

Contemplating staying a little later than booked just to shoot with the Q2 and Q2M for a little bit! see what I like more..  !

Absolutely love the contrasting leather on this bag.

Wotancraft makes quality bags that are distinctive and yet practical. Thanks for posting.

I really like Wotancraft's older WW2 inspired stuff. The waxed canvas is heavy, but I love the look and it feels like it is going to outlast me. My bag of choice for the Q2 is the Pathfinder.

Wotancraft - still using my old Wotancraft Avenger - best long trip bag I've ever used - my Barbour leather bag for the light stuff around town - when I need a bag.

I photographed some friends kids the other day inside a restaurant. Left the shutter in Auto. Dumb mistake. Too many blurry 1/8 sec shots. Next time for kids I’m going with 1/125 and let the ISO be in auto. You’d think I’d know better. I do know better, I just got caught up in the moment with beautiful little kiddos. 😁

Good luck.

We all do it. You can’t be on point all the time you have a camera with you. I just missed a bunch of shots because I had limited ISO to 800 when I really needed double that. We learn!

+1 Amen!!

Let me join the "I should known better" and "what was I thinking" party.

Just 2 days ago was out with my Q2 M under bright conditions with red filter + POL (there's 5 stops gone right there). First clue

Wasn't on auto ISO. Second clue

Moved from bright sun to shadows. Didn't bother to remove the POL let alone the red filter. Third clue

Was loving the dappled light, shadows being cast through the trees and framing through medieval arches. Was happily shooting away, getting progressively more and more excited with all the compositional possibilities.

As I moved through this promising backdrop, I didn't bother to check my results, not even once! I was so into the process, planning my next shot etc. I didn't want to interrupt the creative flow by periodically chimping along the way. Figured I'd check all the "promising" results when I got back.

Well there wasn't much to check...with the exception of couple of images, the entire shoot was a blurry mess. I can't remember the last time I hit the "X" key in LR so frequently.

Had only one keeper of a peacock (already posted in Q2 Monochrom images) The only reason that image worked out, is because (luckily) I made the compositional choice of going wide open at F1.7!

That's my long winded tale to further affirm that we all do it.

"Lesson learned"...I think...at least for awhile :)

That’s a shame, in the end I only used the Sony. Happy with how the images came out.

Thank you for your very revealing and insightful message. Like you, I got caught up in the moment. Didn’t chimp at all. I still ended up with a dozen photos worth showing to the family. They thought them great. If only they knew of all my discards. 😁

Dan,

A very nice gallery of a big milestone. You captured so many moments to be remembered and cherished. It’s what photography is all about. 👏👏👏

Been there.  When I was using film I aimed for a max of 6 pics from a roll of 36.  Still use the same ratio as a guide.

Otherwise, the best pics get lost in thousands of nearly-good pics that people are bored wading through in the years afterwards.

Does anyone have experience of fitting a Q2 (or M) in a bag with one of the Leica tripods? The tripod is an unusual shape which makes it quite difficult to fit in a small-ish bag. I have been using a Peak Design 3L Sling and can just about fit the tripod legs underneath the camera by covering it with padded (Lowe-pro) dividers, with the head vertical, again shielded from rubbing against the camera with a padded divider. But I’m going to have to dismantle the bag to get at the tripod!

I also have a Billingham f2.8 bag which is a bit bigger and squarer than I would like and doesn’t mould much around your body. I probably need to go and check out a Hadley Pro Small but wondered if anyone else had tried to find a solution to this.

I've also been struggling with this but have managed to get the Leica tabletop tripod into the Peak 3L sling, albeit with the head detached, while still having it somewhat accessible. Of course, it all depends on what else you are carrying, but I have:

Q2M in half-case
Spare battery and card
Roll of filters using screw-on caps either end
LightPix Q20II flash
Lens cleaner/brush
A few lens wipes

As you can hopefully see from the photo, the tripod legs are feet-down at the very back and this does mean that the bag does not sit quite as flat on it's base as it does without it because the bottom of the feet do push a little on the base, but will still stand upright.

I will admit that this is pushing the capacity of this bag, but it's an ideal size for me and I can still access everything without too much hassle.

Hope this helps!

Wow! You are significantly better at packing bag than I am. I gave in and bought a Billingham Hadley Pro, which fits everything easily, with space for a water bottle/rain jacket too. But that’s a great solution and I might give it a try when I want to travel light but take more than I can stuff in my pockets.

Good choice on the Hadley Pro. I have been using one for five or six years now with my film Ms and it's been great. They also wear in really nicely after a while.

After trying it in a Leica store I bought a black Q Bag from Oberwerth, looks and feels amazing, extremely well made.

https://oberwerth.com/en/products/the-q-bag-leica-q2-tasche?variant=39362068054167

I'm a long time very satisfied Ona user and love their bags but Oberwerth is on another level (also pricing level..)

Do you think an RX100 could fit in the compartment where the pictures show the charger, or would it be too tight a squeeze?

Although I don’t have an RX100 to try.. after checking the dimensions online I think it would be a really really tight fit. If you manage to squeeze it in it would probably be ok-ish for storing but impractical for everyday use.

For my brand new Q2 I also considered the Oberwerth Q bag, however the price tag seemed kind of ridiculous. Finally I tried out the Billingham Hadley Digital and this looks like the perfect solution for me a price of less than 1/3 of the Q bag.

It's waterproof, compact, with enough space for the camera (incl. hand grip and thumbs support), the charger (if needed), spare batterie(s) and SD card(s) - the perfect solution for me at a reasonnable price.

Yeah, I had my suspicions that might be the case; onto bigger and (not so) better things 😄
