I have specific camera and lens insurance. I have to provide all the details including serial numbers and purchase dates. Then, of course, I have to pay their premium. Actually it is not bad because my gear is covered worldwide, although I really only want European cover. They either do UK only or worldwide. Memo to file: I must ask them for a Europe rate. Leica Dlux-5 (my first contact with Leica - I was bitten) *Leica M9 (My first real Leica - now sold) Leica M240 (main camera) Nex-6 (longer lens and backup) * No longer working and not used. Leica: M9, M, M-P, SL Sony: a99, A7, A7R, A7S, A7II, A7RII, a6000, RX100III Fujifilm: XPro1, XA1, XT1 (XPro2 on order) m4/3: EM-5, EM-1, X5 (this is a drone camera) A lot of this is being sold off slowly. (M9, EM-1, A7, A7II, A7S) I use Leicas for most of my work (and play). I use the Fujis when my eyes are too tired for the Leicas and I'm using mostly the Fujis for shooting weddings, at least until the SL system fleshes out a bit. With the Sony I use the a99 for studio work, because I have a couple of stellar Sony Ziess primes. This could be the SL when a few more primes appear. I use the A7R and a6000 as camera platforms for my drones. The A7RII is my landscape camera and when I need either high resolution or need to use specialist lenses for a client. And the a6000/RX100III see use when I am in situations where I don't want or can't carry something else (an outing with the kids for example). The EM5 and XA1 have been handed to my kids. In an ideal world I might get down to a M & SL kit plus the A7RII for the specialised stuff. But to be honest, I like cameras and I enjoy using them all. Most of my cameras get used regularly (except the poor old a99- but I do like it). I do find it hard to sell them even though that is the sensible thing to do. But I have no need to sell them and as long as I use them then I'll keep chugging along. Gordon p.s. what ever you do don't ask me about how many lenses I have..... I guess my home owners insurance covers some things but I think I would like some thing more that covers all this expensive gear. When I've looked on line, I didn't see much that isn't geared toward professionals I use state farm, but I also have homeowners insurance with them (but the camera one is separate). You need to go and see them, nothing can be done on-line. They have two rates for pros and amateurs. It is not that much to get coverage if you consider how much the stuff costs. Covers theft and accidents, no deductible, no cap but you need to give them receipts determining value. Homeowners should cover theft, but most likely has a deductible, and might have a maximum cap. Flu Posted January 9, 2016 Share #73 Posted January 9, 2016 In situations where I plan to print BIG (typically around 40 X 60) canvas, acrylic, aluminum dibond, etc..., I shoot with either my Nikon D810, Sony A7Rii, or Leica S 007. For making video's, I currently use the Sony A7Sii. For event gigs, everyday shooting, or situation where I'm going into the unknown, I bring the Leica SL in combination with a Nikon DF and sometimes the A7ii. Do you always carry a 2nd body with the MM246 for colour? Do you need the high ISO advantage? I ask because the MM246 would be my dream camera but for the fact that I do shoot colour and do love the M240 colours. At the moment I carry an M-P with 50mm cron, an M4 with 35mm cron and a spare 28mm elmarit for the M-P. The MM246 high ISO benefits over the M240 are clear but I struggle to quantify the tonality benefits at lower ISOs. The M246 pretty significantly outperformed my M240 in the ways I use them, particularly when combined with the APO 50. Do I always carry a second body? No. But if I opt for an analog M I'll probably try it out to see if it's worthwhile. I shoot like 80% black and white. The only times I really opt for color are when shooting cars/motorcycles or when there's something that tells me that color is part of "the story." Shooting black and white only has been a pretty great challenge, it's a different approach that I'm still getting my head around. Right now I have an Elmarit-M 24 2.8 ASPH (the one Erwin Puts raved about... I'm still testing it to see what I think), the 35 cron ASPH and the APO-Cron 50 (I have no words for how much I like this lens.) It's also funny because I _don't_ love the M240 colors. At least not above ISO 1600. If the M240's colors appealed to me more I probably would have kept it. But as it is I'm waiting for its successor. I will also carry a Q sometimes when I am feeling lazy or have a need for AF. I have a D800e that gets used for sports (Little League), the zoo, whale watching -- where I need to go long and need full weathersealing. I now have an SL and I am still experimenting to see what I will do with it. It may eventiually replace the Nikon. I have a Sony Rx100iii that is sued when I just want to put a camera in my pocket -- and my wife uses it when we travel. I have a Nikon AW1 for underwater and beach -- used very rarely. What I don't have any longer is a M246. I prefer to have both color and BW available to me. It would be interesting to ask in a different thread what cameras people no longer own and why. Mornnb Posted January 9, 2016 Share #78 Posted January 9, 2016 Main camera is a back M240. It is so much more fun to shoot and I get better results with it. Back up is a Canon 5D Mark III. I use it when I require a longer exposure than 60 seconds.... or when I need to use the 70-200mm 2.8 to shoot events or sports. Or when I require the TS-E 17mm for architecture. I could probably replace the Canon with a Leica SL, it will do a whole 30 minutes of long exposure however there is no Leica tilt shift. And I can't justify the price of the SL. Abram Posted January 24, 2016 Share #79 Posted January 24, 2016 I do just about everything with my M cameras (M240 and an MP) after having left my Canon DSLR life behind, and last year I sold off my entire Sony kit which was pretty extensive. But my Ricoh GR is an additional mainstay and a personal favorite, it's just an exceptional little camera. The only other camera I have is my Hasselblad 500cm which I was given about 4 years ago after helping a family friend. I've been working on it and cleaning it up / upgrading it over the years, but I have reached my limit of knowledge on cleaning it up so it's going to be headed to David Odess soon. I've slowly upgraded my lenses to newer versions, and I just have to get my old backs fixed up. It's a very special camera to me though as it was the actual camera used to photograph my parents wedding nearly 40 years ago. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Sometimes I want auto focus and Fuji does it with with excellent lenses. I can still use complete Leica system with my Fuji XE1 body; it is a pleasure.
