I saw a video when SL was dipped in water with no problem but that is not quite the same

as getting heavy water splash for a few hours though. I talked with my local dealer a bit about this and nobody was willing

to stick out their neck to claim that SL would survive our water festival unscathed.

HI There

When I was testing the camera last July . . . it wasn't my camera . . .  and I did a 4 hour shoot of a tractor run in pouring rain - a real deluge - The camera had no protection, it just got wetter and wetter. the only result was a little condensation inside the VF when going back into the warm . . which lasted for 10 minutes. Otherwise nothing.

Now I have my own camera, and I'm happy to just sling it over my shoulder, however much it's raining - it's been just fine.

True, initially I also thought that bare SL with 24-90 should be just fine but why tempt fate :)

I saw a video when SL was dipped in water with no problem but that is not quite the same

as getting heavy water splash for a few hours though. I talked with my local dealer a bit about this and nobody was willing

to stick out their neck to claim that SL would survive our water festival unscathed. Then I saw Dicapac bag which is big enough for SL and it would accept 82mm  size lens and is cheap enough to try. I figure at least it will stop the big splash and whatever water that may leak into the bag, SL should be able to handle that. As it turned out though, the camera stayed completely dry.

The bag was quite well thought out with finger holes that would let me access most of the buttons quite well.

I also want to protect the camera itself from other stuffs beside water, talcum powder, people bumping into me with their various belongings, water pistols etc etc. No ice cubes throwing that I could see but got drench by bucket full of water + ice cubes a few time though.

I've been out in Singapore monsoon with the SL and so far it has been ok. I was literally up to my shins in rain water one day. So wet I needed to ring my shirt and shorts out before I got into my car. Drove home in my skivvies.

If they're going to boast that it's weather sealed. Then I'm going to hold them to it. Otherwise I'd have used my Canon or Nikon system.

Wow, glad to hear real user's experience regarding SL in the rain. Certainly made me feel better.

I might be brave enough to try my SL in the rain sometimes. However, during Water Festival here next year,

if everything goes as planned, I will be in French Polynesia then so no chance to test SL then!
