I took this last night while waiting for my eldest daughter to get out of rehearsal.  It was lit only by the single bulb you can see in the frame.  Taken well after dark on a cloudy night, hand-held at 1/3s.  The ISO was 1600, but I pushed it in software an extra couple of stops so equivalent to ISO 6400.  Leica SL w/ Tri-Elmar 16mm @ f/4.

This plaza is actually the back side of a fountain at the entrance to Piedmont Park in Piedmont, California (a suburb of San Francisco known as the "City of Millionaires" in the 1920's). I don't know much or really anything about the fountain's history. I believe it is a recent addition, though, no more than about twenty years old. Piedmont has been my home for the past nine years or so.

Started playing with the camera today & gave it a torture test, a backlit hummingbird in flight.  I wanted to see how well the shadows would hold up with significant ACR "fill light" (it's CS5).  This is about 1/3 of the original picture area.  Let's just say I'm impressed.  Leica SL / 280 APO, no lens profile.

Doug, Your opinion is invaluable and so welcome -  thank you for sharing.

Leica SL / 280 APO, no lens profile.

Let's hope the profile for that lens (and 4 others) gets updated in the next firmware release.  It's hard enough to remember to set the lens ID when you change, but to remember to set it OFF or to something that has the same focal length but is not damaged is a real nuisance.

Must be today's understatement on this forum... What is the aperture you used in that lovely shot?

And please Leica, please fix the R lens profiles that are off, 280 APO included.

Only picked mine up on Saturday in Manchester, and the weather was awful so nipped in to the Imperial War Museum North to give it a try.

Interesting that you used the 21-35mm R lens.  I acquired a secondhand SL 601 a few days ago, tried it with my 21-35mm R lens, and contrary to expectations, am happy with the results. The lens has been criticised by others when used on other cameras … e.g. M240. I'm not posting my images because they're just experimental and boring and the light was poor - and feature same buildings from same camera position throughout the zoom range and at two apertures i.e. f5.6 and f11. However, I'm impressed by the lack of distortion. I selected the Leica M 21mm Asph lens profile but have no idea if made a difference - further experiments 'with' and 'without' M profiles required. I cannot yet access R lens profiles as using a Novoflex R to M adapter. I do not wish to buy a Leica R to M adapter just yet - prefer to await release of the SL's R adapter. Looking forward to using the SL with my R long focal length lenses and Noflexar T.

I got the SL because I was never properly satisfied with using my M with adapted lenses.  It all seemed a bit clunky, although the results were often very acceptable to me.  The R 21-35 remains one of my favourite lenses and always seems to produce good results for me with film or digital, which is why I chose it to be the first lens I would try on my new camera.  I used a Novoflex LET/LER adapter which works well.  Unfortunately as such I can't access any lens profiles so the shot was without any in camera correction and if I recall was made at the 35mm position.

I've attached another image taken during a break in the rain which I took at the 21mm position and as you say the lens seem to handle distortion reasonably well (for a none TS lens anyway).  Again no in camera correction and only slight adjustment to the horizontals (I'm sure I've got one leg longer than the other) as I hadn't discovered the levels function by then  ;)
