Explanatory comments help (would have saved a whole page in this case).  Some people post their contributions to ART, some post their kids' triumphs (if captured on an SL).  I sometimes post one of my mini-Winogrand attempts to capture 8 faces of people doing stuff in a public place, and those never get much in the way of faves...

Neil - challenge for you.

You're bored. You're on an oil rig? There are probably lots of other people on that oil rig that are also bored right?

Life is short. You're a long time dead. We're all trying to figure out who the fuck we are and why we matter. How many opportunities to to stop for a moment and really think about that do you want to have pushed right under your nose before you take one and make something of it.

So here's your challenge.

Within the next 24 hours, find someone on that rig and persuade them to pose for a portrait picture. You're in Tennerife for god's sake, the light should be utterly divine right around 8pm. Take a portrait of someone you don't know and while you're doing it ask them who they are, what do they want out of life, what do they think it means. For the love of god take a meaningful picture rather than a bloody spot light.

I mean this with love dude. Seriously.

You obviously have no frigging idea what kind of people work on an oil rig, and what my capacity is on this rig. If I even dreamed up the idea of asking a rig hand to walk down to the end of the pear and take a portrait of him, I would not only have the camera shoved up my arse but half the frigging crew would be waiting in line to continue shoving unpleasant things up my arse.............the only reason the other have wouldn't oblige is that they will be in bed sleeping, exactly where the fuck you should be right now........ sleeping

I kinda like how some people use frames for the pictures they post here. So I've been experimenting around a bit and decided to repost this image with a frame now.

Love that...........personally I hate frames but that is just me :) :)

The white background is probably the worst "frame" imaginable. So it is definitely better to choose a frame, but this one is very old-fashioned (3153). I am sure you will find anything better.  (Maybe just as simple as BlackDoc, 3151)

(And maybe with some contrast, why not red or blue instead of grey border to a grey picture (b&w) like 3146).

(I wonder why the forum admins do not add a simple default frame. E.g. a simple black/dark background/border)

Mats, mounts, frames have their uses and are essential for hanging gallery/ exhibition images. However, for online posts they can appear OTT / overdone and can drown the actual image … especially when the image as a result of over-enthusiastic presentation appears as a multiple border 'poppy show' … and adding a large-ish signature further detracts the viewer's attention. A subjective topic but some of us prefer the 'less is more' approach.
