@ThighSlapper -- The mean-looking hook nosed character that you show flying seems to have jesses on his legs.  Are some of these birds being flown in partnership with falconers?  Can you give a little of the story behind these fabulous photos?

The folk that organise photography courses that I attend (on and off) have a falconry day where it is geared entirely to getting decent photos of the dozen or so birds he has ...... and a spell at the end where the falconer flies a selection specifically to try and get some decent in flight photos. It's an entertaining day out in fairly remote countryside with plenty of time to get things set up right ....... handheld and tripod. Just 8 of us with the falconer, his wife and a selection of goats, chickens, geese and their birds of prey. Last year I had an M &  a T and found getting decent pics with an M and modest telephoto lens very hit and miss ..... the T was far more successful. This year the whole business with an SL was a completely different experience ...... instead of hundreds of photos with only a few that made the grade I have hundreds that are virtually perfect and it's a matter of just choosing the best .....  Last year was overcast and actually much better diffused light for photos but was bitterly cold and windy ...... this year was just cold ...... well we are in the UK and it is only April ....

Jan the Falconer has a selection of his birds every day at Mary Ardens Farm near Stratford upon Avon as part of the trio of Shakespeare attractions (she was Shakespeare's mother) http://www.shakespeare.org.uk/visit-the-houses/mary-ardens-farm.html

The WATE arrived today. I think it passes muster on the SL. Two test shots:

Leica SL + Tri-Elmar-M 16-18-21mm f/4 ASPH
ISO 200 @ f/5.6 @ 1/50 @ 16mm

Leica SL + Tri-Elmar-M 16-18-21mm f/4 ASPH
ISO 200 @ f/4.8 @ 1/80 @ 21mm

Good corners, even at 16mm on the SL (haven't tried it on the M-P yet). This makes me very happy.

It's a lovely lens, probably worth the ferocious price, but I have to say that the ergonomics work better on the M-P then they do on the SL. I like the feel of the Super-Elmar-R 15 and Elmarit-R 19 better for SL shooting. The big draw of the WATE is that it's very small and light, and three lenses in one.

enjoy!
