Beautiful … and wonder how the Dallmeyer lens might render same?

dunk

Hi Dunk, thank you for your input. The legacy lens like Dallmeyer Super-Six series won't render the same as the modern lens such as 24-90. The distinctive character of Dallmeyer or other vintages is mostly caused by the many types of aberrations, which are mostly eliminated with the modern lens.

Yes … I am aware of that - I once owned a Septac lens and realise the Dallmeyer Super Six has very different image footprint to a modern lens - but it might suit some types of portraiture. I have just acquired a s/h SL and look forward to experimenting with my legacy lenses e.g. Canon FD 85/1.2L and Canon FD 50/1.2L … and a humble Chinon 55/1.4.

Driving along one of Bangkok's busiest expressways last week, the sky glowed from a huge festival at a large suburban temple. This weekend, I visited the temple and produced a short photo essay. See some of the bizarre "blessing" rituals in the middle of the essay. Click on the first image, then step through them with the arrow key or a finger swipe. Captions below each image.

http://www.peterwalker.com/festival2016.html

All images taken with Leica SL.  Most taken with the 24-90mm but some with the WATE at 16mm.

Tripod stayed in the car (it would have been inconvenient among the crowds of people).

Back story behind the first image in the set.  Absolutely the best view of the whole festival is from the expressway.  So, with my wife driving, we faked a temporary break-down in the "emergency lane" while I jumped out of the car, leaned over the expressway railing, and got some quick shots of all the lights. I put quotes around “emergency lane” because many Thai drivers like to use it as an overtaking lane.   It was a bit hairy with cars and trucks zooming by - but the SL helped by being very quick to focus and shoot.

Regards

Peter

Winter has ended late this year, but finally every weekend there are new wildflowers reported in bloom.  So we ended yesterday visiting a favorite spot for finding expanses covered with red poppy-like kalaniot, and exploring for wild mushrooms with friends, one of whom grew up on a kibbutz that has a rare species nearby.  Album is at https://www.flickr.com/gp/133969392@N05/83W6F0 , and here are a few specimens.
