I have no problem with you expressing your views and hopes (I've been shooting with Leicas since 1969, so I think I qualify as an "old Leica user" too), and wasn't meaning to be rude. It just seems you've expressed the same thoughts over and over and over and over again, on most threads about the SL. I begins to feel a bit tiresome to read them once more, again [...]

No offense taken B). My rant is over now and i don't want to rain on others parade obviously. Just a bit sad to reiterate my experience, or lack thereof,  with the Leica T. I wish you good luck with this new body :).

Any sample images taken with this camera?  Where?

There are various sample images posted by beta testers and reviewers both on this system and on others. The first set that Jono Slack posted is at this link address: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-news/2015/10/leica-sl-test-jono/

You'll have to hunt around the web for others. A google search for "sample photos from Leica SL" nets a good number of hits.

The camera hasn't been released to the public yet, that's a few days off, so most anything else from other than a beta tester or official reviewer with a camera supplied by Leica are shots made at Photo Expo in NY or at various demo days at dealerships. I wouldn't call those kinds of sample shots very representative of the camera's capabilities.

Another question for Leica:

  • can Leica be more specific about the functionality of the R adapter for the SL, and perhaps take on board what people are asking for?
  • will Leica manufacture adapters for Nikon, Canon and Sony AF mount lenses to the SL

The SL has the huge potential to be a universal mount for AF lenses.  If Leica wants to attract professional photographers to the new system, it needs to acknowledge that it will take them a long time to get more lenses to market (they have provided one, announced two more, and the experience of the S system is that it is going to take Leica time to fully populate the AF lenses required).  Offering M & R compatibility won't be enough.

If the SL can operate AF with Canon, Nikon and Sony lenses (Sony, perhaps not so important) it will be way ahead of the other manufacturers with the best EVF and compatibility.  The Sony A7 series cameras are now Canon compatible - this is the future Leica should not be scared (or arrogant) to embrace.

Do you still have questions about the Leica SL?

We'll have a Leica SL workshop with Stefan Daniel and Stephan Schulz for Leica Forum members this Friday (November 13th).

If you have questions we should ask the Leica experts - or try them out, please let us know!

Andreas

Dear Andreas!

When/where will we get the answers?

Andreas,

As and when you have time, I think I would speak for most on this part of the forum, that we would love to have a synopsis of your meeting yesterday with Stefan Daniel and Stephan Schulz.

I don't subscribe to LFI; I just ordered this issue. It's not too expensive.

I did the same. It arrived very quickly. It reminded me why I cancelled my subscription some years ago. Whereas the technical articles are very interesting and the pictures lovely both in content and quality of printing, the accompanying text often makes me cringe. Pretentious - moi?

To be honest I never read the text, I only look at the pictures :)

Hi Wilson

I completely agree with you . . . . and now I know why!  I wrote a long article about the Q for LFI magazine - very specific word count requirements for the layout which I adhered to magnificently. . . . . .

When it came out I read it and though - WOW am I that pretentious? Did I say that? Surely I didn't write that?

........ and when I compared the text I'd sent in, they had, indeed, added lots of long words and completely destroyed any rhythm my poor writing style manages . . . and removed anything even slightly resembling a joke.

I remonstrated, and it was explained to me.

If you write for LFI in English, then they translate it to German for the German edition (fair do's I'd say - no complaints). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Then they translate it back to English for the English edition (WTF) . . . and they have a problem, which is that German takes up quite a lot more space than English, so to fill in the bits between the snapshots they need more text - so they sprinkle it with long words and voila - pretentiousness.

Of course, this is also true for articles written in German.
