I posted this in the "About the Leica Forum" section yesterday, but i've had no response yet.

.......................

What's happened to Thighslapper's SL image thread, and the thread about his new SL?

Was it an illicitly supplied camera and has Leica thrown an injunction at him?

Or have they just been merged with another thread I haven't found yet?

His posts show up when you search his name, but the links are broken.

Yes, I'm happy for Thighslapper that he's enjoying his camera but less happy (and Leica probably is too) with the dealer who sold what was probably a demo unit early.  If there's an official launch date, why not stick to it.

I think something similar happened with a previous launch - can't remember which camera -  and, if memory serves, Leica weren't too happy then either.

that is a joke....people have been posting images taken with the SL for some time...i could have posted some myself, plenty of SLs going around to stores and leica obviously did not mind people bringing cards and taking pics....

if one of these cameras actually changed hands before the release date, that is something to take up with the store but i don't see why the threads have to be removed here...the same user could have just gone for a longer walk with the store demo unit....

silly for this forum to comply with a silly request......

even if the cameras shipping on the 16th (or the 20th when we in the US seem to be getting them) have a different firmware, there was nothing technical in the users experience or pics....

leica should have been more worried about the DPreview demo unit they sent out.....nothing to take back there!

For all I understand in this matter, I think all parties involved would be best served by being open about what happened.

Nothing worse than secrecy in this early stages, when you want to win public opinion or launch a new product and are confronted with start-up problems.

This forum, for one, should not assist Leica in a marketing strategy,, if veiled in secrecy. It would be an insult to our intelligence.

The problems are being solved soon and will be in the definitive firmware at launch as I presume. So no damage done then!

I asked Andreas to delete the posts.

Basically so some poor soul who has made a simple human error doesn't get a b*llocking.

PM me if you want the tale in full...... can't say any more on the forum ......

Good job. I don't need to know more, you did the right thing.

They cannot. They can request Admin to take action - that is all.

... can request: Yes.

But without any guarantee that I follow this request.

I'm not sure which is worse - Leica's request or the site owner's compliance with it.

As already said by thighslapper:

There was no request by Leica to me.

Andreas
