Peak Design has certainly done a brilliant job of design with that bag. I was reviewing it again the other day: so many excellent details.

Sheesh, another bag... !

Yes I have just gone with this bag. I like the fact that it has some rigidity to its form. I like very much the locking system and the inserts. The quality of the bag seems to be excellent.

I purchased the Oberweth Wezlar today from the Leica Store in San Francisco. These bags are hand made in Germany. This model I was told is replacing the Freiburg. It's by far the most expensive bag I've ever purchased at $799. The build quality is exceptional and it holds the SL with the 24-90 lens and an M body (in my case Monochrom together with 50mm APO). There are lots of pockets to cary a light meter, T to M adapter, lens cloths and memory cards, etc. Considering the build quality, the bag is actually quite light. The bag I chose was dark brown leather with Olive Codura (fabric). The bag also incorporates "theft protection" with a wire cord running through the strap to prevent cutting. All in all a very nice upgrade from the Artisan & Artist Oskar's One Day Bag I was using previously for 5 years.

A very nice looking bag but I never like stacking things on top of each other as Murphy's Law means that the next item you want will always be the one underneath. The result is you are then juggling Leicas to sort yourself out. The downside of a single layer bag is of course, that it has a bigger footprint.

Thanks Wilson. There are always trade-offs to be made in the quest for the perfect bag. I like the small form factor, lightness and the fact that the inserts protect each camera from rubbing up or banging into each other. In reality I rarely switch back and forth between systems frequently so it works for me.

After having considered many options, I finally opted for Billingham f1.4 with one extra set of dividers and shoulder pad. It takes the SL with a lens mounted and 4 extra lenses without stacking. I could probably add 2 more lenses if needed. The build quality and general design are very similar to the M combination bag, just larger.

I have a Billingham Hadley Pro which I almost never use other than to store my gear. I want something more compact. The A&A Oskar One Day Bag was the best choice for me prior to the Oberwerth.

I'm still debating wether the Oberwerth Wetzlar is still too big. The other choice is the more compact Freiburg. Decisions, decisions.

If I had bought new, that would have been my choice too but I was offered a barely used version of the slightly larger Billingham 225 at less than half price, which was just too difficult to refuse.

I've had the Billingham 225 out for a couple of walks with the SL plus a few lenses now. I can stuff a good bit into it, but I find it somewhat inconvenient to use due to the way the top of the bag closes, and that despite the button snaps to keep it held open. The Tenba Messenger Mini is a bit more convenient in use. I wonder if the new Tenba Cooper or the Peak Design Everyday Messenger Bag is better for the SL. The SL plus 24-90 plus a couple other lenses is a considerable bit of bulk and the larger bag is likely a better pick for me.

The Billingham L2 remains my most used bag with this camera. It's just (barely) big enough to carry camera with the zoom, and handles camera with two medium-sized R lenses (or one large one) gracefully.

Thanks I have the old leica Bellingham for my M stuff and the SL with the hood fits right in. It was stolen from me (without the camera) so I need a new case.

I was looking on the internet and saw this Leica grey case. I'm also thinking off the Billingham 555 because although it's big I can take 2 camera's and 3 lenses possibly.

So it's hard to choose but I like Leica so much I'll have a look at this new one in comparison with the Billingham.

I think you have to be careful of "this bag will carry everything I could need" syndrome. You end up with a huge bag which you rarely carry anywhere. I would say the Billingham 225  is right at the very top end of what I am prepared to carry around even for short distances. At least the SL with the 24-90 is almost a camera system in one single portable (semi) package or so I have found over the last three weeks in Myanmar.

I'm very wary of trying to carry everything ... Even with half my R lenses in a bag, I can barely lift it for long. Then the Pelican roll-away is the only solution.

What I'm looking for isn't necessarily to carry everything, but to have something with enough space and easy access to carry what I want without having to squirm and squeeze to get stuff in and out. If it's just the SL plus the 24-90, the L2 works great, but if I want to carry a three lens kit for travel, I need something bigger. One hypothetical kit is the SL plus 24-90, Super-Elmar-R 15mm, plus Elmar-R 180/4 and 2x Extender-R. The only small lens in that set is the 180mm with extender, the kit just won't fit the way I want it to in the 225. Similarly if I go with the 19/35/50/90/180 kit of primes.

That's what I'm hoping the Peak or the Tenba will work well for. For my usual walking around, the L2 does well.

I use a old bowling ball bag.  If I get a second lens,  I will remove the shoes from the bottom and place the lens there.

This thing is so far from a Barnack it is not funny.

Yes. It is an utterly different kind of camera. The X2, X typ 113, and Q are more akin to a Barnak, particularly the X2.

......and a 2016 Mercedes S Class is a long way from Karl Benz's Dogcart but which would you rather drive on a daily basis.

I liked it and I wanted it black>

I am sure if you contact Luigi or Ginevra from the details on their Leicatime website, they will make what you want. As each strap is hand made individually, customisation is not a problem. You may have to wait a little while for delivery but having bought straps and other bits and pieces from him over the last 10 years, the wait is always worthwhile.

Channel Modern/Fast & Prime custom made me this bag so I could use with it my SL + 24-90.  It's now available to the general public.

I have several 4 of their pieces and think their designs are timeless and hand craftsmanship exemplary.  It's a premium bag so may not be for everybody, but if you are in the market for such a product, I can't recommend them enough.

They also custom made me this bag as well, which can also be used for the SL:

You children will probably be able to leave that to their grandchildren and by then it will be a collectible antique  :)
