If true they probably cut the legs right out of the Q and T and maybe even X lines. And perhaps we will look back and see all of these as beta tests to check on technology working in the field and customer demand.

I don't see that - apart from specification there are the different price points to bear in mind. The SL will no doubt be significantly more expensive than an X model for example, larger too. The Q is probably going to be closest to an SL with a 28mm prime, if indeed there will be a 28mm prime available for it. But then there has always been a market for a high quality compact v an 'SLR'.

So, as long as we have time to ponder. Let's assume for the moment the SL is a Q with interchangeable lens. Q is 4000 camera plus lens. SL is 8000 with lens BUT you can have different lens. Perhaps even backward compatible to R or M mount with adapter loosing the AF function. So camera is 4000 plus 4000 for the 50mm AF lens. Obviously a different price point. Worth the pay up? No opinion one way or the other. Just asking

Not cheap but not too far from a Sony A7R II.

? Still a couple of thousand Euro, but in any case in six months time when the SL is on the shelves the Sony A7R II will be into it's heavy discount phase making the gap massive.

What we know so far.....

  • The SL will be a FF EVIL camera styled to look like an SLR, available in black finish
  • It will be released with 2 zoom lenses and 1 prime, a 24-90 f2.8-4, a 90-280 f2.8-4 and a 50 f1.4.
  • It will be VERY expensive

What we don't yet know.....

  • What type of strap will it have
  • What bag will be best for an SL, two lenses, notebook and tuna sandwich
  • Can you get a black dot for it?
  • Will this cheap battery off ebay work in my new £8000 camera, because an extra Leica battery is £100!
