A few days ago a young woman was brutally beaten and raped while walking late at night on a bike path I ride regularly. She is still clinging to life in the hospital, but barely. The people in my neighborhood were so incensed that they organized a march down the bike path then down an adjacent street, where I shot this. More than 3000 people turned out in a deluge with flashes of lightning all around.Unfortunately, police have not yet caught the slimy bastard who committed the crime.

Brent, I am amazed of this shot!... Unbelievable to catch this on that small sensor!... Really an amazing image due to a horrible event!!

Paul, Stuart and Louis--Thank you for your comments. Louis, I was also surprised at what the little sensor produced. The ISO was 3200, and I fully expected to not end up with any usable images.

 

I hope to be able to someday add a footnote to this post saying that the miserable asshole who committed the assault has been caught. We'll see.

great reportsge shot, very atmospheric with rain and light.

People are being alarmed and furious even full of revenge. I hope some helpful creative means will help to avoid these lifethreatening attacks. Let us please know how things develop and whether the woman will survive.

Thanks, Iduna. She is in an induced coma but will survive--at least physically. Meanwhile, other actions are being taken. Lights along the bike path will now be left on all night instead of going off at midnight. Also, the beautiful wildflowers and bushes that lined the path will be mowed down so there won't be any hiding places.
