Please I am serious. Has anybody purchased a Luigi case for their silver M8. If you have any reasons for choosing a specific colour you could share that would be much appreciated. Any regrets once purchased

Many thanks

Regards

I have to say that I never really liked these cases. But then I saw a photo of a silver M8 in a half case - in rally, which is kind of a mid toned brown. So I ordered one along with a custom strap.

I think it makes a beautiful companion to the silver M8. Though there are a couple cons:

1) You have to remove the case to change the battery or SD card. But I don't consider that to be any more of a hassle than when I used to have to change film in my M6.

2) The leather cut-out makes it a bit harder to use the wheel. Not impossible, by any stretch, but just a little more difficult.

The first time I took it out of the house, it accomplished exactly what I hoped it would. I was shooting photos, when a man walked up and asked about my old camera. Said it looked just like one his father used to use long ago. Fellow was amazed to see that it was actually a digital camera.

I will post one this evening or tomorrow, I am at work. I did not get the grip on mine, I wanted it to be as compact as possible. There is a small sort of grip area on the front of the case and on all of his cases I believe unless you order the larger grip. I also ordered the handy little pouch for an additional battery and memory card.

I bought one of Luigi's cases for my M8 a couple of months ago and I'm very happy with it.

Mine is black. I think it looks great on the camera, and it does, indeed, make your expensive digital camera look like an older camera. I had the same experience another commenter mentioned of someone asking me about my 'antique' camera. I think the black one or the brown one are especially nice looking on the silver M8.

Looks is the furthest reason from why I bought it, though. The model I bought has the attached flap on the back to cover the LCD screen and controls. I feel much more at ease carrying my camera around and not worrying about scratching the monitor or inadvertently pushing buttons.

The case probably works better for someone who shoots more the way they did with film, as I do -- meaning I tend to shoot for quite a while without reviewing the pictures on the monitor, so the hinged flap is not inconvenient for me. Having to remove the case to change the SD card isn't much of an issue for me, either, because I do that far less often than I have to change film in my M6 (I still shoot it and I use a case for it, too).

The other commenter here is right about the case making it a little harder to operate the wheel. On the positive side, though, I have big hands and the extra thickness of the case makes the camera easier to handle in my opinion.

I very much recommend it.

Darrell,

If you are referring to the grip which replaces the bottom plate, I have never had one since I preferto keep the camera as compact as possible. I have no problem gripping the camera like it is. My Luigi case is one he will make that has no back cover, just the opening like the Leica half case. Since I just received mine a couple of days ago, I have not had time to take it out in public so to speak, I really need that extra body in silver:)

I bought a black case with built-in grip, hanging door and the tripod screw for my silver M8. I think that black looks great on the silver camera, and I love the feel of the whole setup, more-so than the cases on film Ms. The grip is especially usefull for vertical shots.

I went without the grip. I think the case itself adds a great sense of stability and grippiness. (if that were a word)

I went without the attached flap. In fact, I leave the flap off 90 percent of the time. I do like to be able to check out the histogram, etc. Just gets in my way.

I'll try to shoot a photo of it tonite.

I feel slightly unqualified - having a black M8 and not owning a Luigi case - however:

One memory I have of my Grandmother is her silver rangefinder with a tan leather case. I was ambivalent with regards to which finish to go for when I bought my M8. I finally went for black and I'm very happy with it, but...

The silver body with tan leather, in my opinion, is a very evocative and classic look.

I was recently gifted a Luigi forest green full case by a kind member here who decide the M8 was no longer for him. I had toyed with the idea before this gift of getting a black half case with the built in grip.

Not knowing what colour was coming my way I was a little surprised when I opened the package, but it has grown on me very quickly and strange as it may seem blends well with my chrome M8 and Chrome lenses, I really like the colour now . I tend to only use the half case leaving the lens hood only for occasions where I may be traveling.

Overall I find the case easy to grip and secure to hold, the strap is excellent and stayes in place on the shoulder. The full case has the removable hood and the cutout back. I can't help but feel the cutout is not accurate, somewhat obscuring the menu + play buttons. But by in large it's very comfortable to use and carry. It does however add another dimension when changing SD cards or batteries with another Item to be removed for access.

If I were to think about buying one again, possibly one with the built in grip, just for my fingers to go other than in front of the VF, I like the idea of having no back panel, and I'd get the strap with the SD/battery pouch. It adds a touch of old world class while enhancing the tactile feel of using the M8.

Recommended 100%.

I would recommend the Luigi case without reservation. You have a lot of choices and should look thru his website Leicatime.com to see the different combinations. I have 2 black M8 s so I went with an all black half case ...no flap . I had three customizations that needed to be carefully specified (1) ordered all black including the inner suede lining and all the stiching....some of his cases have red lining and even red stiching (2) eliminated the snaps and the snap on back and had the screen opening stiched ..because I wanted a smooth back..I use the Petronus Screen saver (3) added the stainless steel tripod screw..which I really like because it screws the case onto the camera and adds the flexibility for tripod use . I also selected the case with the built in grip ..its a little smaller the the Leica M8 grip which I have on the other M8 . I almost bought the Silver M8 and if I had I would be buying the Rally half case from Luigi.

O.K Wooda here we go

The case is by Luigi and as you can see is the half case with grip.

The hand strap is by Jim Garavuso at camadapter. CamAdapter.com - Camera adapters for microscopes.

Jim was kind enough to work with me to get a leather whose color and texture were a good match for the Luigi case. Lots of money spent sending samples back and forward. The strap attaches to the camera with an arca swiss compatible plate into the tripod socket. As you can see from this picture, I am using it with the Leica mini pod and a manfrotto teeny ball head. The ball head is screwed into the plate using an extra standard tripod screw threading provided by Jim. Altogether this is a very flexible platform

Hope this helps
