Went through Jim's blog (link in your comment) and although 50lux is same in M240 and Kolari, the tiny 28 elmarit is vastly superior on M240 compari to Kolari. He says (for f/2.8)

"The Leica is substantially better. It’s not great, but the Kolari image is unusable if corner sharpness is necessary."

Kolari doesn't catchup till f/11

Thanks.  Indeed the 28 elmarit is pretty bad on A7 cameras, including a modified one.

I have that lens and also the 28 Summicron.  I will test  them down the road when I have my A7r2 modified.

My main WA lens is the WATE.  That's more than useable even on an unmodified A7r/2.

A7r2 + WATE

BTW, the BSI sensor in the A7r2 has a similar effect as the image you show.  It reduces discoloration quite a bit.  To reduce corner smearing you need a thinner sensor cover glass or a different lens design, such as is used in the WATE.

For now M is all I need... A better EVF and responsive processor (for non M lenses) as in SL will be more than welcome but I am not waiting. :)

Last weekend I was out hiking for three hours in heavy rain with minimal protection to M240+28cron. I love what this combo can do. I can almost count the fingers on the guys next to the railing !! ... Not quite... but you get the idea. :)

[i really don't intend to diminish the value of any other system since they are also great in what they do. It is just that existing M is more than enough for me. After all this thread is about new M]

One intriguing question I have is regarding the R to SL adapter.  Does this mean we will be able to use R lenses on the T?

We already can, combination T-M Adapter/M-R Adapter both from Leica or the T-R adapter from Novoflex.

This is the way for the SL too, until fall next year (yes 2016!), then the (S)L-R adapter from Leica only is becoming available. If they make it on time.

Don't want to know the price yet.

Also potentially pricey S adapter, my Contax 645 to S adapter was $2000. Leica adapters are quality but prices can be brutal, yet I appreciate their availability.

Good point. The current M is a fantastic mature system that has room for improvement but nothing immediate or essential.  I think the M looks even more appealing for what it does in the company of the Q and SL.

BTW. Great picture, but I zoomed in, and I could count the fingers. Each hand has five :)

I've always bought camera systems for the lenses first. I actually think have a 24-90mm f2.8-4 range is pretty tasty, given the MTA figures

A nice compliment to an M for primes and a repose to Sony which doesn't have a mid-range zoom of interest at the moment

The long zoom looks very nice as well

My comment on the price is that it make the M240 at the current prices, new or second hand, stay firmly in the game, and differentiates nicely between the two systems which don't overlap much. I think the SL looks clearly better for events or where heavier lifting is ok, whereas the M stays firm favourite for lightweight street and travel

The funny thing is I have zero interest on how this plays with M lenses. I much prefer an M for that

THAT IS REALLY FUNNY !!!!

Frankly I don't plan to invest in R lenses or S lenses, just to use a new camera body from Leica.

Also I foresee that until a decent SL lenses ship, most folks will use the SL mainly with M or S lenses for full-frame. I am curious to understand how the SL will perform vis-a-vis the Sony A7RII which is the nearest competitor, with M lenses.

Tee hee The SL has a GPS and the status icon on the top LCD in the photo on Leica's web site shows it can't find any satellites. I wonder if it's also censored in China.

GPS works really well in my experience. As far as China etc. is concerned, the usual restrictions apply.

I always wondered how well GPS can work on any device that is not always on. Even my dedicated hiking GPS takes some time locking on the satellites if it wakes up in a totally new place (quite far from last time).

I have a dream,

Now that Leica has the good EVF, the electronics and the SL for video i hope they upgrade the M quickly.

Without video, optimised for photographers, ibis, double pixel count and a return to M9 dimensions.

I would be happy if the next M could take a much better EVF, still keeping the RF of course.  The rest, if can be done in a slimmer body, would be a plus plus.  I was hoping the new camera would be more like the T, but with full frame.......but oh well.  Maybe next year.  I would also like to see a Q50.  Leica please?

It would be interesting to know what proportion of M owners use video, my guess is very few.

It doesn’t matter. Leica has the technology developed anyway and it might cost more to disable it than to just leave it in. And video is a big thing for Leica.
