sblitz Posted October 13, 2015 Share #1602 Posted October 13, 2015 In the US, GM realized it had too many brands and got rid of Pontiac and Oldsmobile. Other car companies, and firms, have done the same. Part of the circle of corporate life -- a successful product, expand the line, profits eventually narrow and management (after bringing in a consultancy, of course) declares "we can't be all things to all people, let's focus on what we are good at" and the product line narrows. Excited as I am about finding out about the SL, and which photographers they have seeded for the website videos declaring how this is the camera that helps them see and is an extension of themselves not just a camera, I think Leica is officially heading in that same direction. All for it working out well, I want the firm to succeed, being a buyer of its lenses and other products, but it will be interesting to see, in the coming years especially during the next recession (when not whether it occurs), how they will choose to cull the herd. Mike Rawcs Posted October 13, 2015 Share #1603 Posted October 13, 2015 Like Steve I wish Leica well (always have) and hope the SL is a huge success.

manolo Posted October 14, 2015 Share #1608 Posted October 14, 2015 Could this be a curved sensor that moves to focus? It seams to me that it would make for much simpler lens designs. And more similar to the eye.

algrove Posted October 14, 2015 Share #1610 Posted October 14, 2015 The original SL was named for" Selective Light" from what I read. So perhaps this SL (if the name is true at all) will be named for "Selective Lenses" based on what so many are professing regarding lens choices for the beast. Or perhaps this SL means nothing at all, except SL. mjh you do not have to leave another snide remark, one is plenty enough.

Kyros Moutsouris Posted October 14, 2015 Share #1615 Posted October 14, 2015 I will upset some of the chaps here: the text seen on the website is not a mirror image as you are able to read from left to right without the need of a mirror. It is mostly an inversion of the letters along their vertical axis....
IkarusJohn Posted October 14, 2015 Share #1616 Posted October 14, 2015 The eyepiece for the M camera will be on the left?
jmahto Posted October 14, 2015 Share #1617 Posted October 14, 2015 The eyepiece for the M camera will be on the left? No, eye piece is in the front.... you will have to take a picture facing your back to the scene. ... There is sound reasoning behind it. It makes you feel part of the scene you are shooting. More intimate experience. I thought it was obvious from the inverted letters on the Japanese teaser page.
ModernMan Posted October 14, 2015 Share #1618 Posted October 14, 2015 "... - A few mount adapters will be proposed [probably for R and M mount lenses] ..." I wonder if Leica will manage to ship such adapters in a timely fashion relative to availability of the camera. Just remembering the wait for the R adaptor for the M240. Unlike the circumstances of the M240 which axiomatically works with M lenses, the new SL is considerably less interesting to me without the M and/or R adaptor. Of course, Novoflex may step up with a solution adequate for the interim.
Rick Posted October 14, 2015 Share #1619 Posted October 14, 2015 Or, both a mirror reflex and a built in EVF? Can't be.
Michael Geschlecht Posted October 14, 2015 Share #1620 Posted October 14, 2015 Hello Everybody, Or, it can be an "S" for an "S" sized digital sensor coupled with an "L" for an "R" or "M" body size. Best Regards, Michael
