jaapv Posted September 24, 2015 Share #1124 Posted September 24, 2015 Was is the operant word. See the article on digitalversus.com "Meet the designers" about the new team at Leica. This article was about the new Q camera. The new designer at Leica is Vincent Laine. Sorry I could not copy the link here. Digitally challenged! ;-) Maybe better out of Volkswagen at the moment.. pop Posted September 24, 2015 Share #1126 Posted September 24, 2015 ‘SL’ (and that designation isn’t just a rumour but the name of an actual product registered by Leica Camera) triggers several associations and that might even be intended. Well, it obviously will be some kind of Sinar-Leica. Digital MF with optical bench?
Mistral75 Posted September 24, 2015 Share #1127 Posted September 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) ‘SL’ (and that designation isn’t just a rumour but the name of an actual product registered by Leica Camera) triggers several associations and that might even be intended. 'SL' has at least three different raisons d'être: - a reference to the Leicaflex SL, i.e a 24x36 camera with a viewfinder on top (think Fujifilm X-T1 or Olympus OM-D E-M1) - a reference to SLR: its a SL non R, a Single Lens camera (i.e. a system camera) which is not a Reflex, i.e. a mirrorless camera with an EVF - an S 'leicht' (= light; as the SL used by Mercedes, which means 'Sport Leicht'), a baby S, a S with a smaller, 24x36 sensor. edwardkaraa Posted September 24, 2015 Share #1128 Posted September 24, 2015 If the blurry photo posted by Dr. Kaufmann is really the SL, it looks like a mini S more than anything that has been suggested, like the old film SL.
Mistral75 Posted September 24, 2015 Share #1129 Posted September 24, 2015 I think the photo was shown in this thread some weeks ago and described as coming from Dr. Kaufmann's Facebook site. Indeed: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10206413558871899 Edward Karaa What's the camera in the background? Andreas H Kaufmann There could be an answer to this....but... Edward Karaa Edward Karaa I really like the design and will surely buy one, if it were a new model, that is

EdwardM Posted September 24, 2015 Author Share #1131 Posted September 24, 2015 Gents, this topic is dedicated to new M and I still believe that it will be M family camera. At the same time I think that there is a niche were Leica is not peresented now - Full Frame DSLR. S is medium format and in different price and professional category. Why don't you think that Leica would not start its own line of full frame DSLR to fill the gap in competition with Canon / Nikon.? M and Q are th hunting dogs who is fighting with Sony/Fuji. But they can't beat let say Mark III from Canon or D800 from Nikon. Personaly, I don't want Leica to start this war, but at the end of the day, it's a business and I don't know what shareholders want to achieve. mmradman Posted September 24, 2015 Share #1132 Posted September 24, 2015 German car industry not exactly exalting in glory just at the moment ... Corroding sensor moment, it will be fixed. Talking of German car industry my Audi 2000cc diesel engine is doing consistently better than fifty miles per imperial gallon which is far less pollution than typical US gas guzzler operating in a market with well enforced emission controls - it is like Sony A7r2 MP count really. Note; Imp Gallon is 4.54 liter as opposed to US Gallon which is 3.85.

IkarusJohn Posted September 24, 2015 Share #1134 Posted September 24, 2015 SL, M mini ... I wouldn't read anything into any of this. A full frame AF, system camera could easily be designated a small or light S - there's nothing particularly revealing about that. The obvious place to look for a professional level mirror less is a scaled down S - that would be a fabulous camera. SLR? Don't be silly. That boat sailed with the demise of the R10. The future is surely mirror less; if Leica can lift performance of the sensor (cover glass issues, smeared edges, colour shift) and provide a built in EVF to rival the S viewfinder, it will be fantastic. Those technological challenges should be within Leica's skill set. Such a a camera will also be groundbreaking in a way no other manufacturer has yet achieved. mjh Posted September 24, 2015 Share #1135 Posted September 24, 2015 At the same time I think that there is a niche were Leica is not peresented now - Full Frame DSLR. Don’t expect Leica to enter that particular niche.

lct Posted September 24, 2015 Share #1139 Posted September 24, 2015 [...] Such a a camera will also be groundbreaking in a way no other manufacturer has yet achieved. It had better be at $8K vs $5K at most for the competition.
