Advertisement Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Hi Alan Aurmont, Take a look here NEW M.. This year.. This Fall.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
freitz Posted September 8, 2015 Share #842 Posted September 8, 2015 Do you think the new M will cost the same or less than the previous M iterations? I doubt there is a need for a pricing adjustment especially for those of us that are state side right now.
mjh Posted September 8, 2015 Share #843 Posted September 8, 2015 Do you think the new M will cost the same or less than the previous M iterations? As I have no idea about the next M, about its specs, design, or even when it might be introduced I can only assume that there won’t be any drastic changes in pricing. edwardkaraa Posted September 8, 2015 Share #844 Posted September 8, 2015 My trustworthy sources assure me that the new M will be priced either higher or lower than the current model. There is even a chance the price might be similar. This info is 100% true.

luigi bertolotti Posted September 9, 2015 Share #846 Posted September 9, 2015 Do you think the new M will cost the same or less than the previous M iterations? Well... as in the case of M9, can be they will announce (someday) together a "new M" and a "M240-E" one a bit higher, one a bit lower than the current price.... depending on the specs of the new model. Jon Warwick Posted September 9, 2015 Share #849 Posted September 9, 2015 Maybe Leica will pre-empt the potentially massive megapixel war ..... http://www.canon.com/news/2015/sep08e2.html ..... to show off the capabilities of the 50 APO? Or maybe not .......
Peter Kilmister Posted September 9, 2015 Share #850 Posted September 9, 2015 Unlike a lot of people who post on this forum I am not a fan of Apple stuff. (Although I enjoyed the delicious apple I scrumped form the big house's orchard this afternoon!) Each to their own ... but if we were to have a link between camera and computer I'd prefer a Bluetooth connection to any device; Linux, IBM, Android, as well as Apple. Leicaflex Posted September 9, 2015 Share #851 Posted September 9, 2015 P or U? I don’t think so. Maybe something that harks back to old times but at the same time is not bluntly suggestive of something that, according to the rumours, the hypothetical new system isn’t. This would rule out both R (‘Reflex’, i.e. an SLR) and M (‘Messsucher’, i.e. a rangefinder camera). I think their is a small chance that Leica uses the R. You are right, It won't be a "Reflex" but on the other hand, what does Q, X or T mean? So maybe they use the R for what it stands for, not for what it is. Macro, telephoto, ... - stuff you would have used a R camera for. It's still a well known name - that's worth a lot. I just read the old anouncement of the Leica S2 from 2009. Andreas Kaufmann directly promised a R10. So maybe he is delivering on his promise
otto.f Posted September 9, 2015 Share #852 Posted September 9, 2015 Andreas Kaufmann directly promised a R10. So maybe he is delivering on his promise. Please don't spread obsolete rumours. This promise was withdrawn very clearly and Leica has stated that this is not feasible in any way. The M240 with R adapter was the solution and closer they won't come. Period
Leicaflex Posted September 9, 2015 Share #853 Posted September 9, 2015 I don't think it will be something similar to the original R as it won't have a mirror and I don't want to spread any rumor there could be a new SLR from Leica. That won't happen. You are right, it won't get better than the M: You will need an adaptor and use liveview to frame and focus. I was just thinking about the name of the new system where the letter R could find a new life ...
mjh Posted September 9, 2015 Share #854 Posted September 9, 2015 The only valid reason to revive the ‘R’ designation would be a revival of the R system. Which won’t happen. Using ‘R’ for anything else would be a seriously bad idea – much worse even than touting the X Vario as a ‘Mini M’.

Period I understand all the reasons why such a thing wouldn't make business sense for Leica, but not why it isn't feasible to use the S body and M sensor as a basis for an R-mount dSLR. The S mirror box isn't suitable for R-mount lenses. This would require a complete mechanical re-design of the camera. Developing a new dSLR now without a very sizable installed base of users is suicidal. The SLR is about to be overtaken by mirrorless.

The camera industry is currently undergoing a tradition similar to the one in the 60s of rangefinders to SLR. The M is both the future and the past. Did you ever use an S? The camera is too heavy to be attractive as a small-format DSLR. It is OK for medium format - users expect such heft and it has matching lenses.
