We just finished publishing the second issue of our independent magazine, Breath. We used the SL, S007, and M10 for all of the photos. The S007's photographs are  so distinctive. We use the 100mm exclusively and the images somehow come out looking like paintings. My wife loves them.

Tell us more about your magazine ..Breath

Dsauro,

Interesting story. My wife and I flew to NZ to do the Milford Sound hike (highly recommended). I grabbed a bunch of books on my Kindle to read on the plane (long trip). I downloaded one called Revenge of Analog. In it, David Sax writes about people returning to things like paper and film after everything has been digitized. He has a chapter on film where these guys buy some rundown film factory to resurrect film. I thought, "Ha. That's never going to fly," because film is extremely difficult to produce. But he had another chapter on independent magazines. Turns out printers have begun catering to small publishers because they don't have the big jobs anymore. Long story short, we decided that we'd start our own independent. It is a top-shelf Christian magazine. You can see it at breathmagazine.com.

In terms of photography, it's been a wild and fun education. I was interested in the pixels, DR, and everything just like everyone else before we started dealing with paper.. Now 95% of my photography is for the magazine and my perspective has changed. Now it's not so much about pixels and sharpness, but look. I had toyed about moving away from the S007, but it provides a very distinct look for us, different from the SL and the M. So now we're thinking a little more like cinematographers, more interested in the look that the system and lenses bring than their technical specs.
