Advertisement Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Hi sia_g, Take a look here Could I connect Leica M Lens to Canon 5D body?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted July 14, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 14, 2015 Short answer: no The register distance of the Canon is too large. That goes for all SLR cameras. Theoretically one could do macro with an M lens, but that would not make much sense. If you want to use Leica lenses on your Canon, you need Leica R lenses on an adpter. JohnJWhite Posted July 14, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2015 You can use Leitz lenses made for the Visoflex. Cameraquest has/had an adapter. I have an old 65mm macro that I've used with my 5D for quite a few years now.
Mornnb Posted July 14, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 14, 2015 If you want to use Leica M lenses on a non-M body, your only choice that doesn't crop the lens is the Sony A7.
earleygallery Posted July 14, 2015 Share #6 Posted July 14, 2015 Someone has done it, there's pictures on the web, but you need to undertake major surgery on your 5D.

earleygallery Posted July 16, 2015 Share #9 Posted July 16, 2015 And how about Sony RX1 body? Would that work with Leica M lens? How could it? It's a fixed lens.
sia_g Posted July 16, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted July 16, 2015 How could it? It's a fixed lens. ops. didn't realise, its for a present. thanks!
earleygallery Posted July 16, 2015 Share #11 Posted July 16, 2015 What is the present the Leica M lens or the camera? Leica M lenses can fit to most 'mirrorless' interchangeable lens cameras, such as the Sony or Fuji models, with a suitable adaptor. For a Canon 5D you can fit most Leica R lenses with an adaptor. If you're buying a present for a photographer I'd suggest discussing with them first to see what they want/need. Cameras/lenses are very personal choices IMHO and you're spending a reasonable sum of money, so you don't want to buy something which they actually have little or no use for. dpitt Posted July 17, 2015 Share #12 Posted July 17, 2015 +1 About involving the one who get's the present. Certainly because working with an M lens on a adapter is not everyones cup of tea. You will lose most automatic features like AF, P, Auto aperture, and the ability to focus with small apertures... If you want to use an M lens, why not look into a nice second hand M8, M9 or higher if new Leica RF are over budget? Still manual focus of course, but it would give much better user experience than any solution using an adapter.
