I seriously doubt any lenses would produce better results than my zeiss 25mm,,,,,,,,summarit 35mm/50mm f2.4 or tele-elmarit 90mm for my style of photography but the 90mm summicrom 1980-98 lens looks like a beautiful piece of glass.

I would like one, especially now that i am in the "mandler club" with my 1984 tele-elmarit.

The Leica 24mm f2,8 Elmarit M ASPH, i am very curious about this lens, I wonder about its rendering and how it would match my 50/2 IV. But since I already own the 21 SEM and 28/2.8 IV I can't justify to buy me a 24.........yet🙄.

I love my Elmarit 24mm. I do not have a 28 and rather have a 35 but less used.I have the SEM 21 also. For me the dilemma continues without being able to get rid of one or the other. Both can be great landscape and also street photography lenses. Elmarit 24 draws a very special way between the modern and older lenses. So, actually it matches well the 50 cron V4 that I also have, as well as a more modern look if one wants . With some PP this can be adjusted. However, the purity of the tones and also the special rendering of the Elmarit  24, especially in lower light situation gives it an own signature. IT is currently one of the most offered lenses as second hand and it is possible to acquire excellent copies for "reasonable" pricing.

  • 3 weeks later...

Amusing to see several people wanting the 35 Summilux (in one version or the other). I plan to sell mine because I want to go back to the 35 Summicron Asph. Admittedly I want the newest Asph version so it is maybe not a complete reverse 😀

I rather want to own less M lenses!!!!!

There are some focal lengths, I luckily only own one M lens or none, at all.

90mm, I can live with owning the Thambar and the Elmarit. They do very different things and do it well.

50mm is my redundancy zone :) 50 Summicron, 50 APO Summicron, 50 Summilux ASPH and 50 Noctilux 0.95. Ah, yes, there is also a Zeiss 50 Sonnar. I would not mind to own a Noctilux f1 (Canada original and not the Wetzlar copy!), too.

.... You get the idea. ;)

Fascinated by my Apo Summicron 50, Apo 75 and Apo-Telyt 135  I would like to make my M system an APO system by adding the still to designed (? who nows, may be the designs are there) APO Summicron 35 and may be APO 28. I would not mind if these lenses would keep the size of the APO 50 in analogy to the SL system.

The APO correction is necessary in long focal lengths. Pretty sure it is redundant other than for marketing in 50 mm even (which is why it was not mentioned in the 50 mm Summilux ASPH which has this correction). I wouldn't hold my breath for 35 and 28 mm APO's but it wouldn't be the first time something has been done for non-technical reasons.

I get your point and it is valid. But I think there is room for a summicron which relaxes on the small size a bit but strengthens on image quality.

I think those lenses would be of higher value to the user then the latest Noctilux 75 and Summilux 90.

I completely agree with you on both those points Steve. Fingers crossed!

Already have every lens I could possibly want for my M262 or M4.

Four in the bag today with the M262- 21 SEM, 35/1.4 FLE, 75/2 APO, 135mm f3.4 APO) and more at home I don’t use as much, including the 18mm f3.8, 24/3.8, 28/2.8 ASPH, 50/2 (current non APO) and 90/2 pre APO.

OP said : "If money were not an issue".  Let's keep this in mind 😀

New Leica :

I already have to many M lenses.  The new 75 Nocti and 90 Lux would be fun, but I see little added value to the current M lens collection I already have.

Maybe the new (vintage based) Summaron-M 28/5.6 to compare with my Nikkor W 28/5.6 or even more silly the new M version of the Thambar 90/2.2 to see the difference with my 1934 LTM version.  Like I said "fun" but rather "silly".

New Non Leica

Mmh, can't think of any lens that is highly desirable  to me.

Vintage Leica (and non Leica)

I have a long, very long list.... but my top 3 would be :

  1. Nikkor 85/1.5 LTM
  2. Leica Vario Apo Elmarit R 70-180/2.8
  3. Dallmeyer Speed 2 inches f1.5 Cursive version
