MarkP Posted October 24, 2015 Share #121  Posted October 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) 0429xxx is most-definitely in the range of the flare-prone APO-Summicrons but that doesn't mean that all lenses in that sn batch flare. Go out and test it, If there's no flare then it's fine and if it flares do a more controlled test on a tripod against another 50.  I don't think it matters whether you've mounted the lens or not unless you want to take it back unused and request one with a higher sn, i.e. 0458xxxx. or some such. The MFG date is not helpful as we don't really know what that means.  Let us know how it pans out...

MRJohn Posted October 29, 2015 Share #122  Posted October 29, 2015 Is there anyone out there who has a post redesign serial number (higher than 4235xx) lens that flared? The date on the sticker seems to be irrelevant to me in resolving this problem. And, there again seems to be no official Leica line as to what the date stands for. I can offer 429XXXX with flare, bought in June. Just sent it in, asked them to replace it. jcatral14 Posted December 17, 2017 Share #123  Posted December 17, 2017 My serial number is 4666xxx. Seems there's a flare issue. Or not? This lens should not have it right? Welcome, dear visitor! This lens should not have it right?   I don't see a flare "issue" in your photo. The problem that Leica addressed during production was a noticeable veiling flare (like a gentle fogging) in the centre of the photograph.

I was referring to the starburst flare in the platform lamp.
