New Leica M Monochrom subforum

I think it a good idea to have a sub-forum dedicated for issues, tools, and techniques for native monochrome cameras.

I would prefer to see threads such as this one:

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/247369-mm-post-processing-guidance/

Stay in this forum rather than be moved to the general discussion areas. Now that we have a dedicated subforum for native monochrome cameras, this is where most members will be looking for discussions regarding the M Monochrom and M246. Moving them out of this area, few will be looking at them.

Has anyone worked up a good workflow for the M-246?  I have used Adobe camera raw to open images as sRGB and as Gamma 2.2 and have noticed that the Gamma 2.2 appears to be slightly shifted to the right- meaning slightly lighter. Apart from the additional channels the sRGB has is there any reason not to use the gamma 2.2? Does it make sense to work in RGB mode when you started with a greyscale image in the first place?

In my view, the only reason to work in RGB mode is if you wish to access some applications (eg. NIK Silver Efex)  which won't work while the file is in grey scale mode. Also note that in some apps, such as Tony Kuyper's Actions V4, some of its capabilities are only available if the file is in RGB mode. I find I can do without these. Leaving the file in grey scale, Gamma 2.2 works well for me. My monitor is set to D50 which requires 2.2 and provides accurate rendering of the files.

The Typ 246 comes w/ Lightroom. Quick, easy set your prefs and you are cable to access NIK software. I've been using Lightroom w/ all of my camera systems since it was a beta. I process thousands of images a week, hassle free!

I recently got my M 246 and love it.  A few test pictures I took seem way better than conversions from color especially details in the shadows.

I am  still setting up plowing through the instruction manual. I remember I have read somewhere that the shutter can be set up to re-cock after you release it. Since I shoot a lot in the streets that would come handy. But I could not find anything in the manual.

??  The shutter always re-cocks when you release it....either in single or continuous mode.

The former M9, and its MM derivative, had a discreet shutter mode that delayed re-cocking until shutter button release, but that was to avoid the loud motor re-cock sound, which has been significantly diminished in the M240 and M246.  (The new M262 is reported to have an even quieter and faster re-cock.)

Thanks, Jeff. It clears this up
