leicahg Posted May 12, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 12, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK, Leica you are so generous to offer us free license of Adobe Lightroom with the purchase of a Leica M (type 240)...But with the upgrade to Lightroom 6.0, then existing Leica owners are stuck, no upgrade???!!! We start paying for upgrading??? Whereas if you buy "now" (i.e: after the release of LR6.0) a Leica M (type 240) body then you get a complimentary license of LR 6.0!!!! Mmmmm....Can't understand the logic!!! Anyone can please HELP to explain the above or maybe I am missing few facts...Tnks
Advertisement Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Hi leicahg, Take a look here Adobe Lightroom Complimentary License with Leica M!!!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
AndrewDD Posted May 12, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 12, 2015 I don't understand your issue. You get a license for the product, as it is, at the time you bought the camera. You can't expect Leica to commit to paying for your upgrades for all eternity.
keithlaban.co.uk Posted May 12, 2015 Share #3 Posted May 12, 2015 A question for those in the know. I've a complimentary copy of Lightroom that came with the purchase of my M240 some 18 months ago which I've never bothered to download. If I were to download it now would I be able to get the latest version 6 or would I get the version that was available at the time of my M240 purchase? TIA
leicahg Posted May 12, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted May 12, 2015 AndrewDD, you see even our colleague KeithL DOES NOT understand clearly the extent of such a license! So my problem is NOT with "eternity upgrade", rather, a clarification for the use of such a license from Leica for existing owners, simply....I would appreciate if anyone has any explanation...Tnks
andybarton Posted May 12, 2015 Share #5 Posted May 12, 2015 You are entitled to a copy of Lightroom which is current at the time of your download. If you registered 18 months ago, but don't use your licence number, you can download the version current at today's date. You won't get perpetual upgrades. For those you have to pay, just like every other purchaser of Lightroom (in effect you buy the copy of Lightroom as part of the cost of your camera) Knowing that LR6 was just around the corner, I waited to register my M240 and the downloaded the current version. If I had registered the day I bought the camera, I would have had LR5.

leicahg Posted May 12, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted May 12, 2015 I downloaded about 3 weeks ago, with the SN sent from Leica for my M240 bought in January and I got LR6 When you buy a Leica M type 240, then you are getting two licences, correct?? Then if one has already been used a year ago and in case the other one is to be used now, would we get an LR6?
bhauck Posted May 12, 2015 Share #9 Posted May 12, 2015 So combining Edward's and Andy's replies there seems to be a cut-off Date. Edward, Did you buy before January? I hope that I have the luck and will also get LR6 as I didn't download yet. (but only because I didn't have time , hopefully lucky me )
MaDeVa Posted May 12, 2015 Share #10 Posted May 12, 2015 I guess that the LR version that you are allowed to download depends on two factors: 1) the date of registration of your camera s/n on the Leica website 2) date of usage of the TAN provide with the camera If you want LR6, both need to happen after the announcement of LR6. If you have registered your camera before and try now the TAN, you get LR5.
wda Posted May 12, 2015 Share #11 Posted May 12, 2015 leicahg, welcome to the forum. I am sure you will get much pleasure from your new camera. Members have clarified entitlement to a free download of Lightroom. In the past I have benefitted from the Leica license and have subsequently paid the modest amount for an upgrade. As Lightroom is a relatively mature piece of software, apart from catering for the newest cameras and lenses, lack of the latest upgrade will hardly affect your ability to produce stunning pictures with your current kit and the current version of LR. For my modest further needs, I am perfectly content to continue to use Photoshop CS4, several generations older than the Cloud versions. Yet I do not fret over my aged resources. Now I have to check, when I registered.... *fingers crossed* I didn't know about LR6 until a minute ago, but now I want that version, as it seems much faster than LR5. jaapv Posted May 12, 2015 Share #13 Posted May 12, 2015 I have never formally registered my cameras, just entered them in the owners area of Leica's website when I got around to it. As far as I am aware registration is not reguired when you submit you TAN number. Nor do I think it impacts on the copy of LR you get, as Adobe's download will change at the introduction of a new version, so you have no choice but to get the newest version. CheshireCat Posted May 12, 2015 Share #14 Posted May 12, 2015 From Leica's site, news page: "All Leica cameras purchased as of now are supplied with a licence for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6" The problem is there is no date associated with that message However, I think you get the Lightroom version that is current at the moment you register with Leica to get your Lightroom serial number, but this is not stated anywhere in the documentation and may change at any time. As far as I know, Lightroom serial numbers are bound to a major version of the product, and won't work on newer versions. Just remember to purchase the upgrade license when a new version is released, as you get a big discount if you are just upgrading.

Yesterday he used the TAN (first time) and he got allowed to download LR5 for free and Lr6 at 77€ (discounted).
pop Posted May 12, 2015 Share #18 Posted May 12, 2015 Leica has made a statement with respect to new purchases without tackling the existing users: They really have a problem of communication towards EXISTING users!!!! I wonder what problem that would be. They say that the purchase of a new camera entitles you for one copy of the current version that software. Should they explicitly publish that not buying a new camera does not entitle you for one copy of the current version of that software?
pedaes Posted May 12, 2015 Share #19 Posted May 12, 2015 When you buy a Leica M type 240, then you are getting two licences, correct?? Then if one has already been used a year ago and in case the other one is to be used now, would we get an LR6? The Licence is for ONE registration to be used on two computers - adequate for most peoples needs. My experience is the same as Andys (although it was LR4 when camera purchased and LR5 when downloaded). You have to apply to Leica for Adobe reference number against camera serial number/TAN at a time of your choosing. I doubt that Adobe keep "old" software available to download and especially don't waste time doing so under the Leica arrangement. It is a good deal!
