esquire53 Posted May 1, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wonder, if Leica would offer an exchange to the MM 246, if one has a Monochrom with the sensor problem and how much would that be ....
Advertisement Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Hi esquire53, Take a look here would Leica offer exchange from MM to MM(246). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted May 1, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 1, 2015 Maybe best to ask Leica?
Ted Lemon Posted May 1, 2015 Share #3 Posted May 1, 2015 I wonder, if Leica would offer an exchange to the MM 246, if one has a Monochrom with the sensor problem and how much would that be .... I have the corrosion issue on my MM sensor (camera purchased nearly three years ago) and would rather upgrade than another sensor that could possibly fail in the future. My gut feel is that Leica wold like to move us all on to the new model rather than have the massive cost and supply issues of replacing sensors. I had the same with my M8 which was upgraded to an ME because of the 'coffee stain issue' (that was a very good deal). So I could be on the road of having both my ME and MM upgraded to new M's because of the sensor issue - which means all my digital camera body purchases from Leica have been on poor quality gear. I just hope the cost of upgrade is not prohibitive to the new MM - I love my M9 based MM and its such a shame it has this problem.
esquire53 Posted May 2, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted May 2, 2015 Ted, I have the same issue with my MM and I was thinking to send it in for sensor replacement. I think I'll hlob back and see if they offer the replacement program. Uwe
Edward Louis Marit Posted May 2, 2015 Share #5 Posted May 2, 2015 I asked my dealer and the local factory rep if they were going to offer an upgrade program and was told no. I asked the retail price of the new one and was told $9300[emoji33] That's $3k more than the last one when it was introduced! [emoji24]
leitztozeiss Posted May 2, 2015 Share #6 Posted May 2, 2015 Dealers and local factory reps aren't decision makers at the company. My guess is that they haven't decided yet...perhaps it needs to become more widespread among MM users. My gamble on recently acquiring a new MM is that they'll offer an upgrade path in the coming years.

That's not the price of the new Monochrom.
pop Posted May 2, 2015 Share #8 Posted May 2, 2015 Which currency and and which rate?
Edward Louis Marit Posted May 2, 2015 Share #9 Posted May 2, 2015 It probably is accurate. It's in Canadian currency Our government has artificially depressed the Canadian dollar to support manufacturing in central canada so that they can win the next election. It's about 80 cents to the USD right now.

250swb Posted May 3, 2015 Share #13 Posted May 3, 2015 I'm sure Leica will use up all the 'old' Monochrom sensors they have in stock before offering upgrades. And if they learned anything from the M9 they will have a lot. Otherwise it is possible to envisage a lot of sensor 'accidents' happening. Steve Well, I've got an MM with the corrosion problem that's been waiting for a sensor for two months and I was told last week that Leica Germany couldn't give an ETA on a new sensor. I would like to upgrade, because I don't think I want a new sensor that will ultimately suffer the same problem with potential supply issues. The more I think about it, the more I feel that this is a product which isn't actually fit for purpose. I'd be fine if they could replace the sensor in a reasonable time. If they can't, they need to work out how to provide me with a replacement.
250swb Posted May 3, 2015 Share #16 Posted May 3, 2015 But I would think that Leica could pick the difference between genuine sensor corrosion and 'induced sensor corrosion'. It wasn't long ago that Leica denied sensor corrosion existed, now we think we know a lot more, but I'm not sure Leica has made a definitive statement of the circumstances that causes corrosion to take hold? I can't stand them, but a Turkish Bath may be a good start. And sensor cracks have been reported in the Monochrom, but not exactly on the scale of the M9 cracked sensor outbreak.
