Advertisement Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Hi lct, Take a look here Black paint 'brassing'. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
djdstone Posted April 23, 2015 Author Share #42  Posted April 23, 2015 The purpose of the post was to find out peoples experience with brassing on the M-240. I KNOW THAT LEICA BODY BRASS OVER TIME - so please, let's dispense with the patronising comments. My point from the beginning is that the black paint on the M-240 appears to be less robust that the M9 and to find out how long your camera took to brass up.

ralphh Posted July 7, 2016 Share #44  Posted July 7, 2016 Hey, silver looks great brassed.  Have rewd end the whole thread, I feel sorry for djdstone! His question was not that unreasonable! Lol
Exodies Posted July 7, 2016 Share #45 Â Posted July 7, 2016 Interesting. My Info button lost all its paint before any effect was seen on the silver top.
TheRedDot Posted July 7, 2016 Share #46  Posted July 7, 2016 I'm 99.999% certain that the previous owner did this intentionally (with emery cloth or similar). Other than these two obvious areas, there is slight brassing along the length above the viewfinder and above one of the strap eyelets. However, no brassing at all on the bottom plate, no rub marks on the strap protection pads and everywhere else looks mint, including screen and all buttons.  Anyway, allowed me to purchase it at a good price and it looks great in a cognac half case...  Welcome, dear visitor! 250swb Posted July 7, 2016 Share #47 Â Posted July 7, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes it's definitely fake brassing, so utterly fake and obvious it is comical that the 'previous owner' thought they could make it look natural. It is very sad what people will do to try and make themselves look hip. Â Â Steve

brill64 Posted July 8, 2016 Share #49 Â Posted July 8, 2016 Lenny is representative of something much more about tradition than anything else. sometimes i think a new Leica looks just too perfect & can only serve the owner in this respect. it inhibits use. add to that the speed at which new models are churned out & i am not surprised some owners might want to be different & accelerate brassing. it embodies a certain amount of passion, don't you think? Â the differences in speed of brassing between M9 & M-240 is probably down to changes in eu regulations & lead content in paint?
jaques Posted July 8, 2016 Share #50 Â Posted July 8, 2016 um, Â there is no doubt in my own experience: the m240 paint is wearing off way faster than it did on the m9. After three years my M9 paint was still virtually intact. After three years the m240 shows considerable brassing around the edges, and the info button paint fell off within a week. Notably the paint 'fell off' in little chips at certain corners- I think it really wasn't adhered very strongly to the surface... I don't care so much- but at this intermediary stage it doesn't look that great. I am a fan of my black chrome M6...

ralphh Posted July 8, 2016 Share #53 Â Posted July 8, 2016 I treated my M like a baby for the first 4 months, even though it was 2nd had. Â I could barely be persuaded to take it out of the house. Â Then my wife shouted at me. Â Now I take it everywhere and I'm quite looking forward to it brassing and started to look a bit 'used', but I'm also not keen to artificially accelerate that or mistreat it. Â I still put it in the leica neoprene case when it goes in my backpack. Â I draw the line at having in rolling around with whatever dirt and gunk is in the bottom on my backpack. colonel Posted July 8, 2016 Share #54 Â Posted July 8, 2016 Does the black M240 brass because its scratched or rubbed ? and from fingers only or just naturally falls off ? Â I am just curious as I only tickle the top when moving speed and switching on. I keep the camera in a half leather case when using and occasionally rub the top with a micro-fibre cloth and no brassing .....
ralphh Posted July 8, 2016 Share #55 Â Posted July 8, 2016 It won't fall off on it's own, but enough gentle rubbing will eventually wear through paint, given enough time.
IWC Doppel Posted July 8, 2016 Share #56 Â Posted July 8, 2016 Given the question was effectively does the M240 brass quicker than the M9, not sure if I know the answer ? Â Not that I really mind as my black M9-P is still my daily companion, and is showing wear (that I like).
jaapv Posted July 8, 2016 Share #57 Â Posted July 8, 2016 I love brassing - on somebody else's camera...
sumolux Posted July 10, 2016 Share #58 Â Posted July 10, 2016 Not an asnwer to the OP, slightly off-topic but could not resist: I go the middle path...That is to say: I prefer to use BP, and to use the camera without too much babying. Â However..... I just put some black electrical tape on a few spots that always get worn out fast like the corner of the viewfinder window, where you rest your thumb, etc.You still get attractive wear, but no large areas this way. The black tape on BP is barely visible and allows me to enjoy the camera, no worries about sweat, and use it without fussing about it, even without a half case. And one roll of electrical tape lasts years.
