bradreiman Posted May 16, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 16, 2007 leica noctilux 50 f1.0 may just be the lens for you sir...b
lars_bergquist Posted May 16, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 16, 2007 If this is what you want, then purchasing a Leica is certainly not where you should start. Go buy a disposable camera. taboyip Posted May 16, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted May 16, 2007 tried, but it doesn't has such kind of circular bokeh. f1 or 1.4 did make the subject "pop out", but the blur in the background is different! I've got more picture from the guy who took this picture, and his picture are just like painting. Subject is sharpe, but the bokeh is creamy smooth. taboyip Posted May 16, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted May 16, 2007 so you mean this kind of background is obtained from a bad optic lens?
Hans Roggen Posted May 16, 2007 Share #6 Posted May 16, 2007 I've got a Lensbaby on my Canon. Really cheap but nice effects like this. Hans

Anyway, i assume you mean that the noctilux "can't do" circular bokeh? hmmm... http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=420109385&size=m&context=pool-63271221@N00 or http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=371938569&context=pool-63271221@N00&size=l kthxbye. Eoin Posted May 16, 2007 Share #9 Posted May 16, 2007 Here is a holiday snap taken with the Summilux 35 Asph taken at f:/1.4. The bokeh is really dependent on the highlights, lighting and distance in the background. It's an interesting effect you are showing with the angenieux, I've seen the swirl effect the very odd time with the Summilux but I think it's more to do with the pattern of the background rather than the lens. But I've also seen the swirl in other non leica lenses which is a product of the lens formula and to be honest I don't like it, it sort of makes me dizzy looking at the image. Welcome, dear visitor! vanhulsenbeek Posted May 16, 2007 Share #10 Posted May 16, 2007 You could try the Summicron 2/35mm, last version before the ASPH. I posted photo's a couple a years ago with a comparaison of the two. Created quite a stir :-) An impromptu comparison between two Summicrons M 35 Best regards Sander
hankg Posted May 16, 2007 Share #11 Posted May 16, 2007 A quick soft mask and apply a bit of circular motion blur in Photoshop Although I have seen many Noctilux shots that exhibit a dreamy sort of swirling OOF area.
sean_reid Posted May 16, 2007 Share #12 Posted May 16, 2007 I really wish to get this kind of boheh, but ppl told me that those recent lens can't give me this kind of effect. Anyone got an idea of what lens i should get? The picture is taken by angenieux lens! I am not sure whether I am in the appropriate forum, but I am a M8 user. The CV 40/1.4 Nokton MC also gives a kind of "jittery" or "caffeinated" OOF rendering. You may want to try it if this is what you're after. taboyip Posted May 17, 2007 Author Share #15 Posted May 17, 2007 I've put couple more pictures that tell a little more about the backgroup. I think the contrast is an issue, but I think the lens is also a matter as well. Welcome, dear visitor! billh Posted May 17, 2007 Share #16 Posted May 17, 2007 My old 8 element 50mm Summicron that came with my first M4 have this lovely look - I gave it and an M6 to a friend, and I miss this look - especially on Kodachrome II and 25. I am tempted to borrow it and see if it is as nice as what I am remembering. Did Sean ever do a test with these old lenses?

ddp Posted May 17, 2007 Share #18 Posted May 17, 2007 I've gotten some nice headache inducing bokeh from both a Noct and 50/1.4 pre-aspheric.
lct Posted May 17, 2007 Share #19 Posted May 17, 2007 I agree. Very nice lens! Agree but the 'cron 35/2 IV bokeh is much smoother than that of Yip's lens IMHO. The latter reminds me of some CV lenses (35/2.5, 40/1.4) or the Nikkor 50/1.8D. Or perhaps the 'cron 50/2 DR but i haven't used it personally so far.
